Review of Hampton Medical Centre from 15 November 2012
I`ve been with this practice since I moved to Hampton.  I wasn`t sure if there was an alternative to belonging to Hampton Medical Centre but now that I have a recommendation, I`m definitely leaving (and moving my mum over as well).  The last straw for me is that two close female relatives of mine have recently had breast cancer which means I really should get tested.  When I asked for a mammogram due to family history, the doctor said he wanted proof!! One of the relatives is my mother who is one of their patients.  What more proof do they need? Another issue I have is the lack of privacy in their reception area.  They have two hatches.  One facing the patients in the waiting room and the other just around the corner where it`s more private.  Which do they use? The one in the waiting room where everybody can listen to your conversation with the receptionist.  Recently, I was sitting there and heard a patient state her name, address, telephone number and age to the receptionist and I so nearly reported them for breaking the Data Protection Act. The last time my mother went there, the doctor asked her how she`s getting on with the statins.  My mother has never taken a statin in her life.  It would be funny if it wasn`t so serious.

Think I have to agree generally with all the reviews on here. The service is pretty dire and the general consensus of locals I have spoken too (even staff in both Boot stores) is that "they are useless". The doctors are hit and miss and generally seem more interested in moving onto the next client rather than deal effectively with the one they are seeing. They can be rude and also completely incompetent claiming to have no knowledge on concerns raised whilst looking rather vaguely at you. The reception is generally chaotic with one poor member of staff juggling a dozen things at once whilst queues build and phones ring. Seems like the back office staff could help at these busy times??? This place needs to move into the 21st century.

Review of Hampton Medical Centre from 12 June 2012
I have had a lot of experience of the NHS over my lifetime and will always be the first to praise the tireless efforts of most of its employees but the Hampton Medical Centre is the worst GP practise I have ever had to endure. I have a long long list of minor quibbles with the way the practise is run and the attitudes of the staff but there are two incidences that demonstrate how bad this place is.
I am diabetic and over the winter (whilst heavily pregnant) I lost my insulin and needed an emergency prescription,it was a (freezing) Saturday and my chemist directed me to the surgery. I had to ring a bell because the surgery is only open for appointments. Despite the cold and my being pregnant, the receptionist would not even allow me through the door, she refused to let me finish explaining my situation and she refused to help or offer any advice on what I should do other than 'Come back on Monday' (by which point I'd have needed A&E!).
More recently I had some swabs taken and it turns out the nurse "used the wrong form" so they were discarded! I only found this out when I telephoned for the results and I wasn't even given an apology.
I would seriously advise against registering here, especially if you have a long-term medical condition.

If I could give this place Zero, then I would - I have been a member of this practice since I was a kid and it's worse now than its ever been. Staff are rude, the receptionist is horrendous and the surgery's horrible. I have had too many bad experiences there to even bother listing them - save yourself the hassle and go find a better GP.

Also - the lazy so-and-so's are shut at lunchtime for an hour. How 1950's. Pathetic service.

I am a member of this practice and have been since I was a little boy BUT I would advise anyone thinking of moving to it NOT to.

The practice has grown and grown over the last few years and seems to have neglected is patients along the way. It is night on impossible to get an appointment - you can only book on the morning of your problem - the lines open at 0830 and by the time you eventually get through more often than not there are no appointments left - the reception staff are also very unsympathetic to this as well.

The practice feels like a factory line - the doctors, who I am sure are more than competent, dont spend enough time with you and you are very unlikely to see the same doctor twice. I went and saw one doctor about something - he told me to come back two weeks later for a check up - i then saw a different doctor who when i went into his surgery said, 'what seems to be the problem'? dont they even read their notes.

There is no customer care and no follow up care. It is a poor poor Medical practice - avoid it

Bad, bad, bad.

The service is terrible. You never see the same doctor twice. You can't guarantee a decent diagnosis. When I asked about giving up smoking I was told to call the number an the side of a bus!!) The receptionists are not at all helpful and insist on you announcing your problems in front of the whole waiting room. You can't very often get through to them when you need to and by the time you do get through, all of the appointments have gone.

Oh yes - and it just feels dirty in there too.

I would like to say from the very start that I am casting no aspersions on the competence of the medical staff at this doctor’s surgery. Indeed, I’d struggle to do so, since I now avoid going to the doctor’s full stop, such is my loathing of this surgery.

Hampton Medical Centre is home to a large group practice. You are unlikely to see the same doctor twice. In order to keep waiting lists down, they do not take appointments beyond the same day. If you need to visit a doctor, you have to phone first thing on the morning you intend to visit. This is fine for an acute illness, but extremely annoying for chronic conditions.

The reception staff have, in my experience, been one step above brain dead, and rude with it. I realise they are paid appallingly, but again, it is hugely off putting.

The impression one gets when visiting is that you are wasting their time, and all staff really have things far better to do. Whilst most of the medical staff I have dealt with have been ok, there is one doctor whom I can’t stand, and I doubt his abilities - and others I have spoken to have felt the same.

The waiting room is large, with the typical health information posters and out of date magazines. There is also a children’s play area. The reception staff sit within a square, and often don’t seem to notice people walking in.

There are a large number of services on offer, as you’d expect from such a big practice. Nevertheless, I now don’t go to the doctor. Ever. I should at some point, but won’t. I do think it is time to change my practice.

I’m afraid I’m with mattygroves on this one. I dread getting ill for fear of having to attempt seeing a doctor at this practice - it’s not that much to fear though because it’s so hard to get an appointment that by the time you manage it, you’re most likely better … or in hospital! They have this 'call-back-every-half-an-hour-until-you-can-get-an-appointment-at-the-time-you-can-make-it-and-you-might-be-lucky’ way of working.

The doctors here just don’t seem to CARE! I don’t want flowers and chocolate (much!) but I do want more that to be told to “call the number you see on the side of buses” when I ask for help stopping smoking.

I’d go on to tell you more about the problems, odd diagnoses etc. I’ve had from the numerous doctors here, but I’d only get angry and I try not to swear if I can help it. Just don’t post anything to them because it’ll never be seen again!

My partner needs to register at a practice in the area… I think that wherever he goes, I’ll most likely be joining him.
