Review of Church Street Chip Shop from 21 January 2009

After a recent visit to this chip shop I’m delighted!

They had started using frozen chips and as a result the other chip shops became more favourite to me but thank goodness they’ve gone back to fresh cut potatos!

There’s a wide range of food available from here, from the normal fish & chips, chicken, burgers and sausages and I do believe they do pizzas (I’ll have to check up on that as I’m not 100% sure they still do!) and they use quite a bit of local produce, for example their sausages are local butchers beef sausages while the other chip shop in town does pork sausages

The staff can sometimes be a bit grumpy but then I would be too if working there and not being able to eat the food when the smell’s making me hungry.

Since expanding the shop it’s now bright and airy and there’s a seating area available, though the counter area can still get a bit cramped, especially at busy lunch and dinner times.

I recommend phoning in an order for fish and chips to ensure you don’t have to wait when you go in.

This one’s quite hard to find as it’s up a steep-hilled little cobbled street off the main cromwell street in the town, there’s usually a fish and chips sign at the main road pointing the direction but if you turn right when passing Hebridean jewellery, just before Lighting Electrical you can’t miss it, or the yummy smell!

The Church street chip shop is by far the best one in Stornoway. It is up a side street just off the main street in the centre of town. It is always busy, if going at lunch time it is best to get there before 1pm as it is the one most of the school kids go to for lunch so it can take a long time to get served.

They are slightly more expensive than the other chip shops but it is worth it – I highly recommend their fish and chips! They are continually cooking so food doesn’t stay in the hot plate long which is why their food always tastes great! They offer a range of foods from fish to burgers to onion rings so you are bound to find something you like.
