3 reviews of Judy's Cafe (formerly Jimmy's Cafe) in English
i must agree with the recent review the food in the cafe was very delicious indeed. i went for the fish and chips as i have heard the fish was one of the best in Northfield, i was of course very skeptical of this view. However after trying the fish which was freshly battered, i must say that it was in fact one of the best battered fish i have ever tasted. the batter was very crispy and the fish was very tender, the service in the cafe was very professional and friendly. In fact, my husband was so impressed with the restaurant like serving from the waitresses that he gave them tips! (which i must say is very rare for him to do so)
all in all, the cafe is a very nice and homely with a friendly enviroment. highly recommended for anyone going into northfield.
Hi there, i went into jimmy’s the other day, wasn’t too sure whether it would have been nice or not considering i saw the two very different reviews for the place.
What i can say from my experience is that the cafe is actually very homely, i havnt been before so dont know what it was like 12 years ago but from what i saw, the food was delicious.
i ordered fish and chips with peas, and the fish was freshly battered and was nice and crispy also i must say that i had tea with my meal and the milk does actualy come seperately.
my girlfriend had steak and kidney pie with potato, the pie was absolutely spot on, VERY meaty indeed with lots of sauce.
i enjoyed the experience with my girlfriend and hope to go there soon when im hungry in northfield :)
i hope this reviews helps, as the comments from fruity tart were not a very honest review in my oppinion from the experience i had in the cafe.
I used to go into Jimmy’s about 10 - 12 years ago with my mum and remember the food and service being absolutely wonderful. For the sake of nostalgia I decided to pop in with two of my daughters’ last week for a spot of lunch after hitting the sales in Northfield.
The thing that sets Jimmy’s apart from other cafes in Northfield is the fact that it’s run by Chinese people and you can order either from the English or Chinese menus.
This was about 1pm so way too early for Chinese food, so I chose scampi and chips while my daughter went for sausage and chips from the childrens menu. We reckoned the baby could share a few of our chips as there was nothing really suitable for her on any of the menus.
I sat back and waited for our drinks and food to be bought to the table, expecting a delicious treat based on my memories of Jimmy’s from years ago.
I was disappointed, and so was my daughter. My scampi was overcooked to the point of being rock hard and a dark brown colour and the portion of chips was very small and not well cooked at all. My daughter’s meal was a disgrace and it’s only really my fond rememberances of this place which stopped me complaining - it was cooked OK but on her tiny plate there was just one small sausage and perhaps twelve chips, bad luck for baby as there just wasn’t enough chips to share! The beans on my daughters meal were disgusting and had obviously been boiled to death, being served in a revolting looking thick, sticky sauce.
Our drinks were OK, my daughter had a free Coke with her meal (in a small glass) and I had coffee, but even this annoyed me as it automatically came with milk in it which is irritating as I like to add my own!
I was chatting with a lady on the next table and she agreed that Jimmy’s has gone downhill compared to years ago, she was only in there for a cup of tea and she told me she used to eat in here several times a week but doesn’t think the quality of the food is worth the money now.
For our two tiny, badly cooked meals and drinks I paid almost £9 which is an absolute rip off. I will never go to Jimmy’s again, it’s the perfect example of how not to run a cafe which is a shame considering how wonderful it used to be.
fruity_tart Well, I can only go on MY personal experience - if yours was different write your own review! pmsl!
My review was written almost 12 months ago, things do change y'know? Or not that much really as my neighbour also commented about an appalling meal she had in Jimmys just last week. Do you have a vested interest in this business by any chance? Looking at your profile it seems you joined Qype simply to criticise my review, very odd.
I am not a 'large lady' and do not have a particularly big appetite but my portion was very small, I wouldn't have written that otherwise. And yes, I did think of my baby as she did in fact have chips off my scampi meal but as I said the meal was tiny and I also had to give my older daughter some.
I find the personal attacks in your comment a little hard to stomach, I also find the level of English a little bizarre and wonder if you are one of the Chinese ladies/gentlemen who work in Jimmys???
Oh well, next time you comment on one of my reviews please try to get your words in the correct order and cut the personal attacks. I look forward to reading your Jimmy's review, if you can string the words together to write one that is!

lisa064 I find it hard to believe that you could infact comment about my intellectual intelligence in the english language, it may be because i didnt take my time to write you a formal message across the internet however i must inform you that i actually have an A level in english language and literature, making me in fact more qualified in the english language then you are.
Another problem with your message which i would like to address is the fact that you could comment that i have a 'invested interest' in the business, i have in fact got no connections at all to the business as it is clear from visiting the cafe that it is a family run business, and as i am NOT part of the family, i find it very unlikely evidently that i have an 'invested interest in the business.' The third problem i would like to address would be you saying that because my english in writing you a comment on how unfair and unjust your comments were, i could be in fact one of the 'chinese workers' in the cafe. I am in fact NOT one of the workers, and have never worked in the catering business in my whole life. I DID however set up the account to write a review on Jimmy's and comment on the unfair review that I have read. I was looking to see whether or not there was a website on the cafe, and what i came across was your review. In the moment of discontent for such a harsh review i felt it was only right to write one back to tell the readers what i felt, while submitting my review i saw that i had in fact had to sign up to write a review, so that is what i did.
If you do point accusations on me being part of the business, then i would like to inform you that this is not the case at all. I would also like to say that even though by reading my one review and one comment, it may look as though i may be part of Jimmys Cafe establishment, i am in fact not into all this 'public reviewing' and find it funny how you write reviews for 'argos and greggs' maybe it would be nicer for you to stop reviewing things for fun and find a real hobby.
My wishes today are to keep this matter closed. And for the most part not get involved in a personal battle with you as this would not be what i wish for. Nor do i defend jimmys in a personal way, but instead i defend it in a just manner, one of which i stand for as i dont like seeing harsh comments pointed in the way of a cafe of which i am fond of going to presently.
if you do not understand any of this.. then maybe you yourself, should learn some English upto a A Level standard, and get yourself a degree in History in Birmingham Univeristy. Instead of wasting your life away reviewing everything around you and not feeling as though you yourself should be reviewed. Most probably you should review yourself before you review others.
Lisa Nettleford.
