The pizzas here are fantastic and give the impression of being really authentically Italian. The Garlic Bread/Pizza, which we had as a starter, was disappointing though as there was too much tomato and not enough garlic on it.

The waiter who served us knew very little English, which made communication about dishes quite difficult.

On a Saturday afternoon it was quite busy in the restaurant. It’s probably not ideal pre-theatre eating as the portions can be quite large and it is café style inside, but if you’re just after a quick bite to eat it is very good.

This humble Italian is one of my favourite places to eat in London, or at least Soho. Its friendly authentically Italian staff, its delicious flavours which never disappoint and the chance to see your pizza being made from fresh in front of your very eyes make sit irresistible for me, and that’s not even mentioning its very reasonable prices. You can have a huge tasty pizza, share a starter and have a glass of wine for £10. Brilliant. I am also a big fan of the location. Close to tubes, and to night spots, you can duck in and out in half an hour. The only down is the interior which hasn’t changed in years, but when you take into account the service and the price, it really doesn’t detract from the experience. I have taken several family members and different friends there and they have all loved it as much as me, result. And a tip from me is to get the Quattro Stagioni followed by the Tiramisu.

For a quick bowl of pasta or pizza, I don’t think this can be beaten for value for money. The quality of the food is great and the staff really friendly. Yes it is more like a cafe than an intimate restaurant, but what it lacks in furnishings it more than makes up for in everything else, I like the hustle and bustle of the place.

I used to be a regular in the old Pollo Bar and was sad to see it go, but this is an excellent replacement.

When I went there recently with some friends, one of them insisted in meeting the chef to thank him for the food.

A branch of the small, London-based La Porchetta pizzeria chain, which took over the site of the Pollo bar (hence the odd name).

The pizzas get a very good rating, and many of the starters and pastas are also pretty good - reasonably authentic food which seems to attract a lot of Italians. At about £15 a head for two courses with wine, it's very good value, (especially for the area) and service is pretty fast. Portions are very generous, so you could easily get away with one course and wine for about a tenner.

Like the rest of Old Compton Street, this is a busy venue, and the interior looks more like a cafe than a restaurant, so it's definitely not the place for an intimate meal. Although there's no piped music, the noise from the conversations (and outside traffic!) can also be pretty loud. The downstairs basement (when open) is a little more spacious and less noisy, although there's no natural light.

My rating reflects five stars for value, four for service and three for the surroundings.
