Sultan's Palace can be a bit of a funny place to spot. Particularly if you don't know where it is. This is because it is in the same building as a rather large Chinese restaurant which steals some of its frontage thunder ever so slightly. If I'd not been with a fair few Scousers who knew how to guide me in the right direction, I would have almost certainly have gotten lost. Or just become very confused by the ornate Oriental signage outside.
It's a shame it doesn't promote itself more because this is a real hidden gem. When I came here for dinner, everything I ate was delicious and cooked to absolute perfection. My South Indian Lamb main was the stand out dish of the night - cooked with plenty of ginger and garlic, it packed a real punch without being too overfacing. Accompanied by soft, warm fluffy naan breads and pillowy pilau rice, it was rich, warming and delicious. Even more so after a huge gulps of a refreshing sweet/sour Mango Lassi.
I was also really impressed by the selection of chutneys which came with their Poppadoms. These weren't just your average gloopy, overly sweet Indian restaurant fare. Each one packed a real punch of flavour and was unique in its own special way. My personal favourite was a lime pickle which was eye wateringly sour - and definitely not for those who are faint of tastebud.
Sultans Palace is one of those great things - a unique Indian restaurant serving good food at an inexpensive price. If you're ever in Liverpool and fancy a curry, you should check it out. Well, if you can find it that is...
I fully agree with "cherryJ".
It's a lovely place with great food and a very good service.
Just beware, looking for it, you may be puzzled. This restaurant is in and under another one - the Mandarin Chinese Restaurant. I've seen anything like that.

Decided to try this place out as I had a real feeling for a curry! Was very impressed - great food at great prices. It has a very authentic feel to it, the decor and ambience are great and it feels like a place to come for a special occasion. The service is fast and very friendly and the food is delicous. Glad I gave it a try and would certainly pay a return visit.
