Cheap drinks, pool tables and tv screens are also available, which is good. Big comfy sofas, plenty of tables and ladies toilets (although they could do with sorting the odd smell out!)Food wise what you would expect from the price you are paying, sometimes nicer! New menu is ok, milkshakes are a good idea during the day but in the evening take far too long to make and hold everyone up. Normally a wait on food in the evening which you are told about before you order and apologises are always made for the wait. Kitchen never stays open for as long as it should do, but not always a problem. Although there is often a lack of cutlery and was once told i would have to eat my steak with a spoon??!!
Staff are friendly, although a few spend alot of time speaking to their mates rather than serving on a busy saturday night!
Apart from this come here alot and always have a good night-pound a pint and the quiz are good nights!
Nicer than the average yellow card/scream pub. The decor through the back is great, and the food is typically pretty good and dead cheap.
The beer is “ok”, but you come here for the prices really.

The Riser is a friendly pub on the Gloucester Road. It’s primarily a student pub so it’s pretty much cheap and cheerful. There’s a nice atmosphere in there, you can play pool, and sit in generally nice surroundings to catch up with mates. I don’t drink alcohol myself but it’s a pub that I don’t mind going to if my mates are going.

With fantastic prices for students, this bright yellow pub attracts a young crowd, as well as a few older regulars. There are a few pool tables available, as long as you put a returnable deposit of £2 for the cues/white ball. There is a video jukebox, couches, lots of round tables and bright, neon lighting. The staff are lovely and helpful, and there is a good atmosphere on match days.

Two words come to mind. Cheap and cheerful. Very popular amongst the student crowd the rising sun offers infinate drinks deals, cheap food that fills a whole and provides entertainment in terms of pool tables, games machines and big sreens. The young student crowd helps to provide a buzzing atmosphere and generally friendly place. Good fun and its not going to hurt you in the wallet too much either. There’s quizzes on a sunday that give you a chance to win back all that money that you have spent there during the week.

Lovingly nick named “The Riser” by many of its customers, The Rising Sun is very popular among students. Enjoy a game of pool, or a football match on the large screen whilst sipping on a reduced price tipple by purchasing a Yellow Card from the bar which will save you 30 odd pence on each drink. It’s not difficult to miss on Gloucester Road as it’s painted a very bright yellow to match it’s name!
