Tates

I have purchased 2 cars from Tates now - 1 from their old Renault site and 1 from Citroen in Portslade.

As a female I was slightly sceptical about going into a Garage but found everyone to be really friendly and approachable.

They were really helpful when it came to me choosing what specification to have on my car, advising me where I could save money & they genuinely seemed like that wanted me to get a good deal out my purchase (I was expecting them to try and up-sell on absolutely everything)

I think you have to keep in mind that you aren't purchasing a Mercedes-Benz or a Bentley, so the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed. At the same time, everyone I dealt with was professional and an expert in their field. Even now after having my Citroen for 10 months I know I could call up the sales or service departments and they'd be willing to help me.

As long as they have models I am interested in, I will continue to use Tates for both sales and after sales.

Don’t go anywhere near these people. They are greedy and totally disinterested in seeing their customers satisfied. I asked them to fix a window in my car and after quoting me nearly £500 I asked for the window to be jammed shut. They had the car most of the day and their fix lasted two weeks. They then wanted to charge me another two hours labour £141 just to have another look at it. Seems the work they carried out has absolutely no guarantee at all. I will avoid this garage at all costs. Save yourself a lot of money and wasted hours with these dishonest, money grabbing idiots. Go elsewhere!

Can’t say I’m all that impressed with this garage to be honest.

I’ve been there a few times as they used to be local to me. Although I’ve never had any major gripes with their mechanical work they are expensive and you need to double check their calculations ! Just because their invoices look like they have been added up by a computer doesn’t mean that they actually have ! Following a service there my car needed lots of small jobs/parts doing to it. The long list of items just did not add up (being out by over £50) When I queried it over the phone with one of their staff he just wouldn’t have any of it. He just repeatedly told me that “it must be correct” ! The only way I could get him to listen to me was to force him to go through each item on a calculator with me. Even when I was proved right he still thought I was tricking him in some way ….... !

I probably can’t go back as I’ve been earmarked as a con-artist now ….... ! But to be honest the feeling is quite mutual !
