The Hare is situated in Langton Green, a somewhat well-to-do suburb of Tunbridge Wells. More of a restaurant than a local pub it treads a fine line between Local Pub and Gastro Pub; fine food without the snobbery sometimes attached to the 'Gastro' label. The prices are a little on the expensive side for pub food, but then the setting is more inclined to that of a restaurant, and it is to be expected in the given location. However, myself and those whom I have eaten there with, have never had a bad word to say about the food or service and the prices are definitely reflective of the quality of both.
Somewhat more of a destination for a nice dinner than a quick drink, the pub itself is split into several rooms for dining and one smaller bar area, with a garden area that allows for both.
Just minutes away from Tunbridge Wells by car, and yet situated within a seemingly small country village, The Hare is ideally located immediately adjacent to the Village Green and often the Summer drinking spot for groups of Englishmen in their cricket whites. It is somewhere I always recommend to friends that are new to the area and a definite local favourite.
A firm Tunbridge Wells favourite. Have had many a birthday dinner and lunch here. The food is great, there is plenty of room. They cater for children and babies. The bar in the middle is a nice place to have a drink on a Sunday. Parking can sometimes be tricky owing to the pubs popularity. It is right on the green so even better in the summer.
This is now established as our family favourite. An expertly run pub and restaurant just outside T Wells the premises were formerly a coaching inn so the layout is spacious yet has a cosy ambiance and friendly attentive staff. The menu is quite extensive and the kitchen very well run - and portions are substantial! There’s a selection of local and guest beers (always in top condition) plus a staggering selection of whiskies. The main bar usually has a huge ice bucket with a selection of 'fizz’ to sample by the glass - for restorative purposes only. At weekends ensure you book for lunch - which usually turns into 'tea’ - it’s a very hard place to leave.
The website has the menu and profiles of the staff. Wonderful in winter (open fires burning lovely aromatic woods) and an outdoor terrace at the back which overlooks Langton Green itself - very 'English’ in the best possible manner.
