St Georges Shopping Centre

I disagree with the first commentator. I find The Mall, soon to revert to its original name of The St Georges Centre, to be a very friendly and interesting centre. Yes, at the moment there are a number of empty shops, but there is in every high street. The eating places in this centre are much better than in the Fishergate Centre, and it has a much better mix of independant shops too. The Original Art Shop on the Rotunda (next too Vision Express) always has a really interesting range of art on display - as good as you will find in any major city centre - I love the work of Caroline Shotton. Raffles is an excellent cafe, Fusion a very good fashion shop for younger shoppers. Add H & M, Wallis, Ernest Jones, La Sensa and an entrance to Marks and Spencer and you have a very good shopping centre. There are also a number of "market stall" type stands in the malls which make for a much more interesting shopping experience than in th erather bland Fishergate Centre. Once the new Next opens in the old Woolworths The St Georges Centre will be the place to visit!

Just like fishergate I very rarely use this shopping centre. The main reason for this is very few of the main shops are actually in this centre.

I also find the layout incredibly disorientating with there being no clear 'route’ through it. Although renovation has been taking place over the last couple of years I can’t really see the benefit or improvement this has had.

If it’s not the best shopping day and the rain starts in earnest I suggest you make a bee line for fishergate instead - at least it has Debenhams to keep you busy!! The only shops in st georges worth visiting all the gallery and the bodyshop – luckily they are near the same exit!
