Slightly slow service at the bar was no indication of the excellent meal that was to follow. Oysters, smoked salmon blinis, moules and escabeche of haddock and prawns were all pronounced good starters.

For mains, sea bass, loin of venison and salt cod were all received with praise and the treacle tart and custard for dessert was very good.

With two bottles of wine and three beers the bill was £210 for four. An enjoyable evening in pleasant surroundings and good value for money.

I cant vouch for the hotel rooms here as I have never stayed, but the food is exceptional and this place has a very good reputation for serving great, seasonal and local food. Frequently the recipients of glowing reviews in the local press, this place is well worth a visit. I have eaten sunday lunch there a number of times which is always delicious and from the a la carte menu for special occasions. It is quite pricey for some dishes but you get what you pay for, the quality of the food is high. The interior has a lovely, cosy atmosphere and the service is always good, it is advisable to book in advance.
