Compliment

If words like "whacky", "funky" & "trendy" are what you look for when finding a hotel, this place is for you. Certainly a unique experience.
Originally designed for the launch of the VW Fox, the hotel features 61 rooms designed by 21 young & upcoming artists. Each room is an individual piece of art. From whacky comical styles to strict graphic design, you'll find flowers, fairytales, friendly monsters, dreaming creatures & much more waiting for you in your room.
This is all fine & dandy, but my room (designed by a Norwegian artist) was a minimilist white box (aside from a splash of colour on the duvet cover) - white walls, white curtains, hard white floor, with the bed on a white lacquered plinth, no wardrobe and the tiniest bathroom in the world. There were no lamps and just a single (naked) bulb in the ceiling. Hardly what you're looking for after a long working day. A classic example of style over function.
There's a small bar & restaurant, and breakfast is served in the "chill out" area in the lobby. You get to choose from a buffet of fruits, pastries, cereals & yoghurt which is OK. They'll also make you up a pack to go, which is a nice touch. Your breakfast is served in a white moulded plastic tray, which together with my white room did make me feel like I was in some kind of institution (actually, does anyone remember the film THX1138?)
Its a shame as I was really looking forward to the visit, but still give the hotel 3 stars for at least trying to be different. Plus the staff were friendly and although functional, the stay wasn't that unpleasurable.
