The White Cross is right on the river which is its biggest advantage. In spring and summer, you can easily while away time in the front of the pub watching people on the river, families out for a walk, birdlife swimming and diving, and just enjoy the village feel of Richmond.

The pub itself has many small rooms that connect via stairs and different corridors, and it can get very busy so you may find it hard to get a table.

I love this pub. I came here on Saturday after a very romantic picnic by the river. Despite it being the weekend, the cool breeze meant that there was enough space for us to sit in the garden. The garden has its own bar which is handy.

I think we got here pretty early - 5 ish. Somehow, we didn’t look at our watches again until gone 9! It’s very easy to lose track of time here and watch the river and just chat and well, get drunk.

I don’t spend much time in Richmond and it’s very easy to get to (especially from Waterloo) - I’ll be spending much more time here over the summer and I’ll definately come back.

I just don’t understand why there is a pillar in front of the doorway as soon as you walk into the ladies. Yes, it’s probably stopping the building from falling down, but it really hurts when you walk into it. Every time.

This riverside pub, in Richmond, attract all age-groups and has real ale (Young’s) as well as the usual alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It is a pretty old style pub with trendy beer garden that overlooks the river (although walled off). There is an additional bar in the beer garden. Also serves food which is a little pricey. Inside during the winter there is a real log fire!

It was a rainy Monday (I think…) when I frequented the White Cross. Considering the name, I did not notice any religious affiliations with this pub. Anyways, I did enjoy the vast array of mirrors…and most importantly, the good food. For a picky (read: very) vegan, I did not complain. Not even a peep.
I don’t think I’ve met an ‘adult beverage’ I didn’t like in the uk, and was surely not disappointed at this fine establishment.
However, I think I got slightly lost trying to find the women’s lavatory…Be wary of the signs! Friendly advice from the staff ensured a success story on my part.

The White Cross has possibly the best location of any pub in the UK. Richmond riverside in the summer is lovely, and you can sit out in the beer garden as the water laps up over your feet at high tide.

This place used to be blighted by a terrible landlord, but the recent change of management has really sorted out the decor and the service, and the food is excellent now.

Young's ales always on tap - not the cheapest pub around, but worth paying for. Try to get a seat on the tiny balcony upstairs!

It was pretty busy last night but the bar staff were excellent and worked really hard to make sure everyone got served quickly and in turn, which made it such a pleasant place to be that what was supposed to be one drink before going somewhere else for a meal turned into a whole evening in the White Cross. That's the thing about this place, it's not cheap, but the location, atmosphere and service make it hard to leave once you get started.

Great location, if a little odd in shape the White Cross is a refreshing alternative to the Pitchers & Slugs in or around Richmond.

Right on the banks of the River Thames (it is not uncommon for the front to suffer from tidal flooding and swans!), the pub is 2 mins walk from Richmond High Street and serves a variety of beers as well as good, traditional pub nosh at lunch times.

One to try if you want something slightly different.

Great food, alcohol and service, plus a lovely position on the banks of the Thames in Richmond. The White Cross is a really good place to spend an evening - you can chill out in the beer garden and sample the reasonably wide range of real ales. During high tide the beer garden gets flooded with about 30cm of water, and a massive rasta guy turns up with a boat to ferry people from the road leading down to the river to the pub in a boat - he charges whatever you want to give him, or alternatively you could wade over. Anyway, the staff are nice, the view is good and the beer is tasty. Check it out.

Good traditional boozer that attracts an affluent crowd due its fantastic location. Great in the summertime, for hanging out by the river. Of course you can cruise the short strip of pubs nearby but i've never seen the need to move on from here.

The food at the White Cross has really improved in recent months. They do great sharing platters, decent burgers and a killer bangers and mash.

Quite an eclectic mix of people - from dotcom nerds and yuppies to old pensioners and yummy mummy's.

If you're looking for a place on the thames to relax and have a beer after work, the White Cross is hard to beat.
