Waffles!!! sweet or savoury you can pick!!!!!!! ALWAYS BUSY!! but you always get a seat just past the St Albans lake is situated down by sty Michaels school and the Roman ruins!
Eating outside is fine too well sheltered and has heaters for the winter.
Fantastic!

The Waffle House is a very special place. Best for enjoying a pot a afternoon tea with your mum and nan and a “killer” waffle! I always think that I will be able to finish my portion but I always loose... Although I have never tried their savoury waffles... I’m sure they are just as good!
Not suitable for calorie conscious people! Romantic meal is not a very good idea either... too many screaming children.
Strongly recommended for people who love sweet and tasty desserts and have spare cash. This place is not cheap... but the waffles – OG! Forget all your new year slimming resolutions and INDULGE yourself!

We come here all the time and love it! The other reviews cover the basics, but a beautiful old building, great food and friendly staff. I know Sundays after noon are way too busy though.

Restaurant and cafe in a beautiful old water mill, cooking delicious wholemeal and white waffles, savoury and sweet. The wooden chairs and tables, sickles and scythes adorning the walls, give an olde-country feel. The malted shake drinks are lovely. And the chocolate mousse waffles are incredible. A good range of vegetarian waffle dishes too.

I love the waffle house, especially in summer when it’s warm enough to sit outside. One visit, we even had ducklings waddling past our table. I agree with other reviewers about the service being a little hit-and-miss when it’s busy. They do a great humous and avocado savoury waffle and my friend who can’t eat wheat had a spelt waffle!

Very quirky building - it was of course an old mill, so don’t expect level access and wide doorways, but it provides for a lovely and charming restaurant where you can have a table with a great view, or be tucked and snuggled into a corner!
The food is absolutely sublime, they have every type of waffle under the sun - whether you feel like bannoffee, or hummous!
Well worth checking it out if you have some spare time - avoid Saturday and Sunday mornings unless you have time to spare - it gets REALLY busy.

Service is very much hit and miss - I agree with other reviewers. I went here with a group of friends, three of whom had buggies and we struggled inside the restaurant, even though there were staff who were unoccupied and could have helped. The sweet waffles are lovely, if hideously overpriced! Having recently come back from the states where waffles are an everyday thing in most restaurants, paying £6 for one seemed insane. It is clearly the novelty of it which is allowing the prices here.
Outside is nice enough and it made a nice change from your regular chain restaurants, but it doesn’t warrant a special visit.

I’ve been to the Waffle House with my Mummy friends a few times and usually go late morning, before the lunch time rush. Unfortunately as we all have prams/pushchairs we have to sit outside, which if it is very cold or wet is not ideal, especially with young children. Although on one occassion they had erected a sort of cover to keep you dry.
The setting is lovely in an old converted water mill, there is even a museum above the restaurant.
To be honest the service is hit and miss, with long periods of waiting sometimes.
Both times I have eaten savoury dishes I have found the toppings to be luke warm (chilli con carne, and mushrooms). Although the sweet waffles are to die for.
If you fancy a unique setting and something a bit different then this is the place (although may be slightly over priced).

The waffle house is located near to verulamium park. Its a lovely old building.
They serve sweet and savoury waffles. This is a place you would go to around tea time. They can get quite busy and sometimes you have to queue for an hour just to get in.
But if you are looking for an unusual place to go this is it.
The service can be a bit hit and miss and they get so busy.

If you want a great milkshake this is the place to go! Yummy waffles available, both savoury and sweet, (lovely syrups to put on sweet ones) and a great location right by the park. I used to go there to meet up with other mummy friends however we had to sit outside if we had pushchairs with us and when the weather got cold we stopped going. It’s not cheap but nothing in St Albans is.
There is parking available within the waffle house grounds or if you want a walk through the park there is a car park at the opposite side too. The staff are ok but not particularly friendly.

This is a very unusual restaurant based just outside the centre of St Albans, near the Verulanium lake. The basis of it, as expected really, is that most of the food on the menu involves waffles of some sort, so don’t go there if you’re not keen on them!
The food is very tasty though and reasonably priced. There is an outside area for the summer and the waterwheel seems to amuse the kids!

For a special afternoon tea why not visit this waffle house? It’s open right around the year but I can honestly say it’s much nicer in the warm weather, to sit outside, choose and eat your waffle in such delightful surroundings!
Originally a 16th century watermill on the river Ver, the menu offers both savoury and sweet waffles and there’s maple syrup on every table, just like you get salt and pepper. Don’t go here expecting to eat in a hurry, since deciding which waffle to have will take time, there’s just so many to choose from. Everything is freshly cooked and is of a very high quality. As you’d expect, they offer a variety of coffees, teas and shakes. It’s an interesting place to be if you like people watching!
When you’ve had your waffle, why not work it off by visiting the museum on the upper two floors of the watermill; taking a walk over the park (just the other side of the road from the Waffle House); visit the Verulamium museum - there was a roman villa on the site and you can visit the site where it stood; St. Albans Abbey is at the opposite end of the park or you could just stroll along Fishpool street to admire the period buildings.

It’s truly waffle-icious! Make mine a pot of Maple syrup with a double stack of spelt waffles, field mushrooms and eggs on the side. Yummmmmmmmmmmm.
Tip: Save room for pud as the sweet waffle selection will have you salivating before you’ve finished your savory.
The chocolate milkshakes need a mention too! Proper tasty.
Beautiful location (even better when the suns out) the spacious patio is right on the waters edge so whatever you don’t eat you can always feed to the ducks… (just don’t let the staff catch you)
Bottom line this is the best place in St Albans to share lazy weekend breakfast/brunch with friends and family (it’s very family friendly!)

This place is set in beautiful English countryside in an ancient Roman town with a lot of history and the best way to finish off your historic tour would be to go and indulge in the tastiest waffles- sweet or savoury that I have ever had.We have had to wait for an hour in the queue in the summer but is worth every minute. The aroma of the hot waffles can by itself build an appetite.Save some space for deserts!!!!why can we not have more of these waffle houses around the country- i believe only 2 in the country so far….......

Absolutely love the Waffle House - you have to visit if you are ever in St Albans.
My only gripes are that it’s always incredibly busy therefore you have to be expected to wait at peak times. Don’t expect out of hours service either as The Waffle House only opens during the day.
