2 reviews of South Lancashire Amateur Radio Club in English
There is loads going on, with special event stations, summer barbecues, training courses, masterclasses, and many more events.
We are always looking for community events we can be a part of, just give us enough room (for us and our Antenna masts) and we will demonstrate amateur radio to all who are interested.
Amateur radio isn't about complicated Morse code any more (though if you wish, we will be running a course in the future). The requirement for Morse code has been dropped from the syllabus. It's a fairly inexpensive hobby (£25+ will get you on the air allowing you to speak to many many people).
You don't even need a radio, once you have your license, some software and the internet allow you to talk to people ALL over the world!
Children are always welcome, and our trainers are CRB checked. They will provide the best training possible to ensure you (or your children) pass the Foundation exam (it's designed for 8 year olds to pass, so don't be put off).
The membership is £5 per year (3 pound to the Labour club), and 35p - yes 35p per week subs.

PLEASE NOTE
Although the meetings are held at THE LABOUR CLUB, please note the room is privately hired.
Therefore, children are allowed into the room, however alcohol will not be served to anyone who is, or appears to be, under the age of 18. THE LABOUR CLUB COMMITTEE has the right to ask anyone they feel is under age for relevant identification. Children must be supervised at all times and are not allowed into the games room. If children do not behave in a responsible manner they will be asked to leave the club.
I have attended one of the meetings at this club and found the radio club and the venue to be very friendly.
