The swmming pool is a reasonable size, sometimes the pool is partitioned off for children, classes etc, wich is a good thing as they wont get in your way if you want to go for a swim, or if you have children you know you can have a good afternoon at the pool... sometimes they have floats or those foam sausage things. There are 2 jacuzzis, 2 steam rooms (one scented), 2 sauns (one scented), a cold shower and a japensse bath. Okay sometimes these things may be out of order... but thats likley to happpen every once in a while.
The choice of exercise classes is imense...zumba, boxercise, aqua arobics, cuitcits (to name a few)... and they are run for a variety of fitness level from beginer to advance, these are also great for socialising.
I have never experience rude staff. The changing facillities are okay and there are always enough showers. Sometimes the gym may be busier than other times but I've always managed to get by.
I have been in the restaurant a few years back and the food was very good. For the price I think this is a good deal.
Firstly it has two good size rooms with gym equipment in one having an upstairs and downstairs - it has another room dedicated to weights and then another for aerobic classes. You have the Jacuzzi, Steam Room, Sauna and Japanese bath included (granted the japanese bath is out of order at the moment) and although I won't argue about the staff - if you know what you're doing they won't bother you which is down to personal preference. If you want your space when you are working out it is ideal.
If you compare this to the Aquatics centre which I have previously been a member of, the Aquatics centre has one small gym room and a large pool which they use for the olympic teams and is constantly booked so you can't use it. Compare to that which is supposedly one of the best - this is much better. I've also been to other gyms, Virgin gym which isn't far away (the Parrswood complex) - but it's always too busy. And full of students trying to show off, not my idea of a good gym environment.
This gym is more of a 30s professional/older gym goers which means people keep to themselves, don't cause a lot of fuss and get on with what they are doing. Again this is only my personal preference as I don't like people shouting in gyms and the trainers hassling you and saying you should be doing this and that - I prefer to be left alone, but if you want guidance I would agree and say yes, don't go to this gym because they won't help you.
Another criticism has been the air con - yes it is warm but it get's you sweating and into the rhythm so I don't really see a problem, again personal preference. I've never seen it mad busy since I've been doing there which is 2-3 weeks, I've been most times from 5-6pm and mid day on a Saturday and I've always been able to get on the machines I wanted. Again this is not true of other gyms where they get so packed out queues develop - which is a complete waste of time.
So this is my review and I give it 4 stars - because I tried a lot of gyms before I settled on this one and finds it suits my purpose, is quiet and there's plenty of modern, good gym equipment plus saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzi's and private showers - so it's a thumbs up from me.

Terrible facilities, poor quality of equipment, gym staff are not helpful like in other gyms and the customer service is the worst i have experienced, dont waste your money the local council gyms are a much better quality and the same price if not cheaper

On entering the reception area you are faced with rude unfriendly staff, who frankly need training in basic customer service. I have encountered a number of problems with my membership which the staff have been reluctant to resolve. I have brought guests to the gym who were interested in joining, they were disgusted by the customer service and poor standard of the gym

Just joined the gym with family of 2 children ,it is probably the best facility i have been a member of and i have been a member of three other gyms in the area.Kids love the big pool and splash times program, the gyms are all modern with good equipment. ,my wife does various classes in the dance studios ect and says the level of class teachers is good having been an arerobics teacher herself some years ago. we would recommend this club no problem.

I am a member of this gym. It has improved quite a bit but still needs more improvement.
I disagree, there is never any parking after work or when attending classes. The womens toilet- always some out of order and always a risk hazard with water on the floor- very slippy.
The womens gym has cheap equiptment, and a hazard with wires and extension leads everywhere. You can't put your arms out above your head as you touch the ceiling. Machines are constanltly out of order for months.
The gym staff are not well qualified. I asked the personal trainer how to work out my max HR and he didnt have a clue. He said he was taught this at college but couldnt remember- and it didnt matter anyway! Staff generally very unfriendly and unapproachable.
The music in the main gym is awful. It varies from head banging heavy metal to rap music on very very loud.
They dont have a good selection of classes - pilates you have to pay extra.
I wouldnt recommend this gym. I wont be renewing my membership as there are very good deals at other gyms.

I have been a member at the Galleon gym for a number of years and I can only describe the customer service as 'shocking’.
On entering the reception area you are faced with rude unfriendly staff, who frankly need training in basic customer service. I have encountered a number of problems with my membership which the staff have been reluctant to resolve. I have brought guests to the gym who were interested in joining, they were disgusted by the customer service and poor standard of the gym and have decided to join elsewhere.
The gym seems to be on a cost cutting exercise - no free towels (unlike other high end gyms in the local area), no air conditioning, dirty and dated showers, broken and unsafe machinery which despite many complaints by gym members and instructors are not replaced.
The Galleon offers competitive membership rates which has led to an oversubscribed, under staffed and under resourced and shabby gym.
The instructors at this gym are fantastic. I would not recommend joining this gym and pay slightly more else where for a much better service, gym and overall experience. Once my membership ends I shall be doing the same.

ajvwsaj, 2 September 2011:
This leisure club is located right by Parrs Wood in didsbury so it is easy to get to by train or car. There is plenty of parking in the large car park. To attend the gym you have to pay an annual fee which you can get some good deals on each New Year or the start of summer where they run promotions to create new business. The Gym itself isnt bad, there are quite a lot of machines, a separate weight machines area and also a ladies gym. As with most other gyms it can get pretty busy at peak times (between 5pm-7.30pm) where you may struggle to get on the equipment when you want but other times it can be quite quiet. The only downside to the gym is that the air con isnt great so it can get quite warm, especially in the summer months. There is quite a large swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi and also a turkish bath which is also available at no extra cost to the gym membership. Towels are provided when you arrive at the gym and there are plenty of lockers. The changing rooms can get quite busy during peak periods so it can be a struggle to find a space to get changed. Also there is a machine to spin swimming costumes dry but it is almost always broken which is really annoying.
