Another one of the places that used to be great and now it is not so good anymore…you can certainly tell the moment a venue needs ‘promoters’ out of sudden…Don’t we all get terribly tired of being emailed ALL THE TIME about parties being organised and how only overselves (and about another thousand people) can get there exclusively on someone unimportant’s guestlist?:) Gee, what a bitch, hey?:)

Volstead is owned by the same guys who own Bouji, and there are definitely some similarities in the crowd, drinks (see crackbaby from my bouji review :-)), music, etc. The venue is also intimate, with the dancefloor front & centre. Was initially marketed as a drinking den from the Roaring twenties - dark wood, some Chrysler building styled metal fittings, but for the most part its a comfy club with a huge sounds system, and when crowded, an awesome vibe. Its deceptively small, and you walk pretty much straight into the heart of things, but it does have a nice lounge area in the back, a few steps and a more private decked area in the back adjacent to the DJ booth (good for booking tables). The crowd tends to be your typical west-end well-heeled crowd with lots of Euro banker types and the women who love them.

During the week it can be very quiet (hot or miss, although Wednesday nights tend to be better than Thursdays). Fri & Sat are usually fantastic.

Door policy is not as crazy or as problematic as Cuckoo Club (which is just up the street), so if you come early and are polite (the doorwoman on the weekends is a sweetheart), you can likely get in with a small cover charge for the men (surprise surprise). Of course, you need more or equal women to men, otherwise you are not getting in.

This place is almost always a good time!
