We went to The Shipwrights for a meal and a few drinks,The meals we had were very good,sizzling hot and the portions are massive,the prices are very reasonable,as were the drinks,the owner and his staff are very friendly and helpful,The owner Alan makes sure all his customers are happy,just like Tony who used to own this pub,I would recommend this pub and restaurant to anyone,A very friendly place,so me and my friends will be returning,So a big thank you to Alan and all his staff,from Marilyn,Pat,Lesley and Carol.

I went for food with some friends I had cod and chips it was massive, enjoyed every bit tho, my friends had bangers and mash, steak and ale pie and a hot beef bap, they all enjoyed it. Very nice pub warm atmosphere great food, will be going again.

Review of Shipwrights Hotel & Riverside Pub from 1 January 2011

Alas the Shipwrights appears to be a pub in terminal decline. No real ale, no clients and no atmoshere at all. The landlored seemed genuinely surprised and probably delighted when a group of us turned up for dinner. The restaurant was empty, the menu mostly unavailable. But on balance the food we did get was pretty good, if only pub grub standard. We were there about two years ago and the place was vibrant, warm and full. What has happened to this great british pub?

Had a disasterous visit today!!! No real ale- in fact only John Smith's- take it or leave it. Not even diet coke except in tins- no ambience at all and surroundings that were seedy at best (torn/ duct tape repairs on seats) and not very clean
