My friend had reserved a table, as we were on a hen night- We had the £15 per person buffet which was amazing, a lot of different dishes to choose from- delicious, garlicy and something for everyone- the dishes just kept coming, We left stuffed- we had to leave enough food to feed another 4 people, and there was 8 of us! It was really busy it being a Saturday night, every table was full, people drinking at the bar waiting to be seated, and a queue at the door- there are quite a lot of birthdays/hen/stag parties in at the weekends. We were kept waiting to order drinks 3 times, but that’s how busy it was! The decor is rustic/italian memorabilia. Toilets are in the basement, down the spiral staircase next to the horrificly hot kitchen! It is really good value.

Pesto the sauce is a good thing, a Genoese creation that is popular the world over with meat-eaters and vegetarians.
Pesto the restaurant, on the other hand, is not so good.
True - the interior is nice, the waiters and waitresses pleasant enough, but a restaurant is ultimately judged on the food - and this is where Pesto falls short.
35 regional dishes to try out, but what is served is something akin to kiddie meal portions.
It’s the only place that after dining and settling the bill, I walked out and realised I was hungrier than before I started eating.
Pricey for what you get and it goes against Italian principles - Italians pride themselves on dishes that can feed a lion, not bulimic sparrows.
There are more worthwhile places to spend your hard earned money at and I suggest you visit those.

I’ve been to Pesto twice; once during a quite afternoon and once during a busy evening. It’s a cozy place with nice homely feel. It’s not possible to make a reservation, so be prepared to wait for a table on busy nights - we waited about 30 minutes on a Saturday evening at about 8pm.

The menu has a wide selection of dishes to choose from, though all of it is very standard italian fare. The food quality is no better than ok - some of the dishes served up on my second visit were definitely on the cold side.

Personally I always get a little confused when ordering tapas, as it’s hard to tell whether to order anything from 2-5 dishes per person, as different restaurants vary so much in their portion size. Pesto doesn’t help this dilemma by providing dishes that have anything from very small to very large portions (and everything in between)! On the whole however, the portions are on the small side.

It’s not a bad tapas restaurant, but I’ve definitely had better. For what you get, the price is a little on the high side.

Yeah went here the other week. Had heard good things about it and I thought it wasn't too bad. I think the method is in what you choose.

We where super hungry as we'd let it get too late really, so ordered a whole host of things, some where really good others just didn't hit the spot.

Would maybe go back, isn't badly priced and the staff are really nice.

An odd concept restaurant, that serves Italian pasta and pizza dishes in tapas-like quantities, the idea being that you choose two or three ddifferent dishes for yourself, or more to share as a group.

This sounds fine in concept, but didn't really work in practice, mainly as the quality of the dishes seemed to suffer in the process. It was all edible, just not that good. My gnocchi with tomato pesto and tagliatelle porcini weere simply dull, with very little sauce, even in their tapas manifestations. There's no option to have a larger portion. The bread and oil were nice though...

This was a pity, as the staff were helpful, efficient and charming, the prices were very reasonable, (around £10 a head) and there isn't a lot to choose from in the surrounding area.
