Party of '4', one in a wheelchair for a late lunch.

Wheelchair access generally quite acceptable but the toilets are too cramped. Not sure about accessing the dining room in a wheelchair. Entrance 'flat' (no steps), ramp to car park, not too steep.

3 of us had starters.

1 of us managed to eat the whole meal - portion sizes excellent.

The meals were quite satisfactory nothing too special and the pricing was ok. I had Garlic Mushrooms as a starter. Best described as cream of garlic mushroom soup. The mushrooms were ok but the 'soup' they were in had a fantastic taste.

The menu range was/is very good too - with their bent towards locally sourced foods.

This is a moderately good local pub, with no pretentions. The menu offers hearty, mostly local dishes, like the ubiquitous Cumberland Sausage. They are well cooked, and this is the perfect place to stop and eat when you’re coming south from the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway, or Muncaster Castle. We keep going back, so they must be doing something right. It helps that it is good value.
