5 reviews of The Catch in English
At the moment they are offering lunch and dinner specials. With a starter and main or main and dessert and pot of tea or coffee for £7.95. (Check for times)
We had prawn cocktail, not so great as the praws were obviously the frozen kind. Sat on top a bed of fresh crunchy iceburg lettuce and smothered in sauce.
The haddock was a generous sized piece which I had in motzah. The chips were lovely, nice and dry and crispy. Tartar sauce seemed homemade too, though a bit too oniony.
The banana fritter was the best I have ever had in my life! The batter was so crisp and the banana was still solid and not soggy inside. Served with vanilla icecream.
My partner had scampi and jacket potato. They gave him two whole potatoes!
They have a takeaway section too.
Just saw a kids theatre production and went to The Catch afterwards with the cast. Admittedly the were a lot of children, maybe 15 - 20, and about 8 adiults. The kids were all very well behaved - or so I thought!!! It was early, 1730/1800. I have to say that the person who I can only assume was owner or the manager at least was the rudest and most obnoxious man I have ever come across in a restaurant!!! We didn't just go in there for drinks, all the kids had a meal and the adults had at least a starter so they took at minimum £200 from us. He was complaining that the kids were being noisy, he wasn't happy where they were sitting, he didn't like taking our order In the first place. If I had been out with my friends I would have made them go somewhere else. In the end he got me so annoyed with his disgusting rude attitude I walked out - I wish I hadn't already paid my bill!!! The food was ok but it was not worth this mans attitude, I shall never be stepping in that place again and if you want to go out with your kids, this restaurant is not a place to go!!!!
We have eaten here plenty of times and overall the food is good. The battered cod tastes fresh and is well cooked with a good flavour and texture which is also down to the oil they use (they told me they use Groundnut Oil). The take-a-way section can be a bit hit and miss, especillay the chips (once they become cold they are very dry) so eat them while they are hot, but otherwise they taste good so must be made from good quality potatoes. If you have a long way to travel home with your parcel of fish and chips be aware of this as the taste changes dramatically.
Prices are above average, but then the fish and chips here are also above average. Not quite as good as the Sea Pebbles in Hatch End but still a worthy addition to the area.
Eat here regularly, a really nice fish & chippie, good service & generous portions.
Have eaten at this restaurant lots of times and enjoyed the food. We recently got a takeaway and asked for the chips to be well cooked, when we got them home they were very undercooked and not at all crispy, the mixed salad was so soggy and soaked in dressing we couldnt eat it, very poor indeed
