Had fun BUT staffs sale you drink until last music and then short time after with no warning they kick you out with no respect...glasse full. If you try to chat with them about something they just made up things to cover their A**. I WILL NOT GO BACK THERE FOR SURE. If you go there... remind yourself not to buy a drink at last minute "waste of money" and a lady behind the bar called herself Kieran (man mane by the way) and said she is assistant manager (liar) and a black guy "PAul" are the worse staff I met in my life.

Im biased as I've become a regular at the Cellar but I think that is testament to the venue and how welcoming and friendly they are. The Cellar understand music fans and what they want from a venue, to be able to let their hair down and dance as if no one was looking. Ive been to too many other venues where the staff seem intent on preventing all kinds of fun, and even tell you off for dancing too boisterously! Surely thats the point at a dance or rock night! The staff at the Cellar are cool and the music is always different and interesting. Thank god their is somewhere left in OXford like this, too many independents have been squeezed out and Oxford is becoming a carbon copy of any other town or city centre. I for one will support the Cellar for this reason alone.

I have also noticed it has been a bit quieter on weekdays but I have it on good authority (from the owner) that they are going to be making a big splash with their 10 year anniversary and the acts and events will rival those in the biggest venues in Oxfordshire. he didnt say who but sounds like things are gonna get even better!!

Good club, good music, great staff. The people are really nice despite how violent it can get in there (from dancing, not fighting!!). The drinks are sometimes a bit expensive but if they have deals on then you’re all good. Drink away!

I was a little undecided on how many stars for this one. A year ago i would have given 4 but i think 3 is more accurate now. I have been to the Cellar twice in the last few weeks - both on a weekend night, and the place was like a graveyard. No one there. at all. just us and the staff. Unfortunately when you pay to get in here you cannot tell if it is quiet or packed as you cannot see anything down the steep stairs!

On the up side, its nice to be under ground for something different, there is a large stage, a good selection of drinks, friendly staff, good music and its only a fiver to get in.

I would probably go to Escape over The Cellar but this isnt the worst place in oxford to spend the evening. not by a long shot.

The Cellar is located right next to the Oxford Union's Purple Turtle and is definitely a better night out and a far less cheesy option. I always give it a longing gaze when dragged into the PT and have persuaded people to go for a decent night out and received thanks the next morning. As the name suggests, the whole thing is underground and as elliot says, it is pretty unique and seeing a band play here can feel like being in on a secret new act. It's important to pick your night. I recommend Oxford University's Indie Music Soc's Vertigo nights two or three times a term, where there are several live bands followed by a DJ. Great value to match the cheap drinks. I've heard that the Drum'n'bass and hip-hop nights are pretty good if you're into that sort of music, and better than the Bridge or Filth for similar tunes. If you're lucky you can catch stand-up comedy there, making this venue a cross between a club, a pub and a theatre. Check it out - you won't regret it. Just make sure you pick your night so you don't end up clad in skinny jeans and converses, fighting your way through bling hip-hop fans!

The term underground music is thrown around a lot these days, but its hard to get more underground than that played at the cellar bar off cornmarket street in Oxford. With the actual stage in the famous Oxford tunnels that run around the city, bands from all over come to play this unique venue. Ranging from break beat to straight up rock, the cellar is a fantastic bar, with a unique atmosphere for having a drink and taking in some live music. Drinks are cheap and the staff is friendly. I would defiantly suggest this bar to anyone passing through who wants something a little different.
