10 reviews of The Three Goat Heads in English
Nice building & atmosphere but the beer tasted suspiciously like it was gas-driven keg!
It's so good to have a Sam Smith's in overpriced central Oxford. This is probably the only place you can get a cheap pint for about five miles. Typical Sam Smith's decor that makes you think 'have I been here before?' Two floors of space and totally bland but ridiculously cheap food. Friendly bar staff and plenty of booths to sit in.
Not really appropriate for sunny afternoons, since there's no outside space and very little natural light coming in.
Not a bad little pub in oxford, just off Cornmarket. Feels rather posh when you're in there - trying to appeal to the toffs, perhaps...some interesting lagers available.
Need to hide away from your college colleagues and get a cheap pint of beer with friendly staff? Look no further than The Three Goats Head. I was so pleased to discover this.
Sammie Smiths at crackingly low prices for Oxford, and as noted in some other reviews also a good way to hide away from the townies.
I would sum this place up as a real 'drinkers pub’. No pizazz or show about it, but they serve good beer and leave you peace to drink it. A real treasure to be visited on any Oxford pub crawl.
I spent four years studying at Oxford and this quickly became my favourite pub. It’s usually quite quiet (except on Saturdays, obviously) and the prices are remarkably low, considering it’s smack in the centre of Oxford. They also do a decent range of food, and the beers they sell are the usual Sam Smith’s stuff, which somehow seem to be completely unheard-of (well, to me, anyway) but usually better than the stuff you find in most pubs. A lovely little oasis of peace and low prices in the hurly burly of central Oxford – definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.
Located round the back of George Street, with all its chain-bar nastiness, the Three Goats Heads is something of a drinking oasis in an otherwise pretty barren zone.
As a Sam Smiths boozer it serves the usual range of ales and lagers, and they always seem well-kept. The food is probably the best of any of the pubs within walking distance, but not so good you’d visit just to eat: standard pub grub, but with a bit more care than usual.
The odd design (a cellar bar and a main area a bit higher than street level) sometimes means the Three Goats Heads feels a bit confused: some days both bars will be open, other days the cellar only. And its atmosphere is odd - it doesn’t really drag in students, tourists don’t seem a huge part of the trade, and there aren’t real any locals. As a result, it can feel a bit flat.
The upstairs bar (if open) is worth investigating for the decor - wood panelling, small booths, and lots of paintings.
lot of my mates really moan when i suggest going to this pub as they feel its a bit more for the old gits, which is untrue ,besides which they are not exactly young themselves ,but more to the point this has to be one of the cheapest places in town to drink and a great central meeting point from which to go onwards and yonder
A small and cosy pub that’s not particularly full of life, but has some good drinks for beer lovers. Not very hip and happening, but a nice place for parents and locals. It’s a refreshing change from the nearby chain bars. The food varies - I’ve not personally tried it, but I’ve heard good things about the pie and bad things about the light bites. It feels a bit like a French or Spanish bar, although without the funky canapes and foreign drinks. The staff are friendly enough. All in all, pretty average, but worth going to if only to try to work out the meaning behind the name…
I love this place. It is small and seating can be hard to find - but suddenly when you are supping great beers and chatting to friends, this doesn’t matter anymore. It is slap bang in the middle of town, and if you are wanting to avoid ‘The Townies’ it is the perfect place to go.
Also brill for a pre-post cinema-theatre drink as it is located just near to many of them.
Very cosy. Very nice. Very worth checking out.
I have not eaten there (yet!), but I hear the food is simply marvellous. :)
Tired of mass produced beer? Head to the Three Goat's heads on Michaels St, just off Cornmarket St and right next to Shaken Stephen's Milkshakes and Smoothies. Small, but endlessly charming. This pub is a great place to try out some new beers while waiting for a movie, or, as this critic has done on occasion, spend an entire afternoon there sampling extremely decent pub food and fantastic beer and wine. Rarely crowded, and fantastic locations makes this ideal for a new pub to check out.
