5 reviews of Cord Bar in English
Took a revisit to Cord over the weekend not having been there for at least a year. Well, nothings really changed and it’s the better for that. Once the new kid on the block (when new bar opening in the NQ were few and far between) this has been somewhat neglected of late. It can still pack a crowd of course but not on the scale (certainly during the week) of Odd and Trof for example. The décor is probably something you’ll either like or dislike. I like it personally, the cord wall paper remind me of a pair of trousers I had as a kid. Often peppered with the Northern Quarter creative establishment it nonetheless is an overall friendly bar (not up it’s own behind as you might expect it to be). Superb range of drinks (you can, if you’re amongst a select few, have your own drinking vessel held behind the bar…not that I go there often enough to warrant that). One of the first bars to provide music via a MP3 jukebox rather than the traditional CD, it’s also noted as one of the best jukeboxes in town. Food wise they serve traditional pies in what looks like a dedicated ‘Pie Booth’ if there is such a thing, I didn’t try any at the time (anticipating a Chinese meal later in the day) but their aroma was tip top.
Nestle yourself in the snug seating booths and wile away an afternoons chat in post trendy comfort.
Occasionally they will open the downstairs room which resembles a Victorian morgue crossed with a trip to Habitat.
Wonderful.
Cord Bar is an excellent example of what can be achieved in a limited space. Small it may be, but Cord still has everything required for an excellent night with mates. The choice of drinks is excellent, and whilst not exactly on the cheap side, you certainly will be able to find something to enjoy a few of. And maybe a few more. The music on the play-list is almost always on the mark. I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the amount of duff tunes I have heard there over the years. Cord comes highly recommended.

This tucked away, small bar creates a cosy feel with large booths, but this sometimes means you can end up having to share seating with others or standing. Good selection of drinks and friendly service.
