42nd street or (42s as the kook kids call it) is at the posh end of the markert when it comes indie rock n roll. Based just off deansgate on bootie street, this club is massively popular and unless you get there by 10.30pm, you will be looking at a sizeable queue.

Still its worth it when you get in. There are two bars to your sensibly priced drinks from and the dancefloor is slightly more sophisticated than 5th ave. The atmosphere is usually relaxed, rarely any trouble. There are a number of seated areas where you can hang with your pips and re-energise with gallons of cheap vodka redbull. The music is impeccable - a wide ranging affair of indie rock n roll tunes from both sides of the atlantic, again with special adulation being reserved for home grown manc songs. Highly recommended

This is the ultimate student night. Any night of the week is good, but Thursday's "From Manchester With Love" nights were always the tradition, and with it being such a small venue you were guaranteed to know everyone there, or at least think you did with copious amounts of the vodka red bull (which mysteriously glows under the UV lights...).

Though they're probably under contract being a Manchester club to blast out the classic Stone Roses, Oasis and Happy Mondays, 42s is much more than just an indie club.

The cheap drinks prices attract students, and free entry before 10.30 means that there are often queues forming very early on, and so there's always a bit of a buzz if you get there on time.

What's most important is that everybody there is there for a good time, maybe it's the red bull giving everyone extra energy or the great selection of music, but whatever it is, it works, and 42s knows that it can always draw a crowd of people who worship at its alter. Though they shouldn't have got rid of the zebra print on the seating area.

Definitely a fun place! I went here for my birthday and the bar staff and bouncers were SO nice. Honestly, I dont think I've ever met nicer ones.

You werent allowed to take your drink into the toilet which I thought was a bit random but anyway apart from that it was brilliant. I danced the night away to all the indie rock type music they played and there were some nice boys in there too.

Drinks were fairly priced and it was a good venue with a great atmosphere.

42nd Street is the same as 5th Avenue except a bit more expensive and the music is better- you start off going to 5ThAve for a while then move up to 42nd Street! Its got a good atmosphere and play motown aswell but the only downside is that you do get a few libertine wannabe posers. Recommended

In my opinion, this is the best of Manchester's two, big, student indie clubs (the other being 5th Avenue).
Drinks are cheap, and the crowd is generally young, rowdy and up for a good night. Each night operates under a different name, with Thursday's 'From Manchester With Love' being the most popular.
The playlists are generally pretty predicatable and crowd-pleasing (The Killers, Oasis, The Libertines etc.), so it's not a place I would return to week after week, but for an occasional dose of indie, it's perfect.

This club is cheap and cheerful.
If you like your indie music this place is great. Its play tunes such as killers, coral, mj etc.
