4 reviews of St. Martin in the Bullring Church in English
Apart from the amazing victorian gothis building, and some real history, there is loads on offer. There are regular church services, traditional, contempory, eastern style, cafe style etc, there are also concerts, exhibitions, art classes, a helpdesk, a professional counselling service, children’s groups, a shop, a Tea Lounge serving light lunches and loads of different drinks. Its lovely to walk around but its worth also checking out if they have any other events that may interest you.
This is a really lovely church, which is often overlooked despite it’s very prominent position.
Since it’s recent clean up and refurbishment as part of the Bullring development, it really is a jewel in the centre of Birmingham and a lovely spot to pop into for a bit of quiet after a shop in the Bullring.
The inside is just as lovely as the outside, with information about how Birmingham was founded, and just how it has grown.
There are a number of activities run by the church throughout the year, including daytime concerts. It is certainly worth a visit and is in some ways more impressive that the Birmingham Cathedral.
The most ancient of Birmingham's churches, St. Martin's has been the focal point of the markets area since the 12th century. Inside is the oldest monument in the city, a 1325 effigy of the Lord of the Manor Sir William de Bermingham.
The present building, with a stained glass window by Burne-Jones, dates from 1875. Home to the world's first change ringing peal of 16 bells. Grade II listed building.
St. Martin ’s has undergone a major refurbishment over the past five years and is well worth popping into for a quiet moment of reflection on all that money you have just probably spent shopping in the Bull Ring centre next door.
