The Gatehouse Restaurant

One of the best eating places in Lancaster. Really good intersting food but not too trying to be too fancy and they do a fixed price thing on Mon and Tues nights which is a good deal. (it might be other nights as well)
Quirky decor and nice staff.

Lancaster has plenty of restaurants that do good food but the Gatehouse is one of a select few that does great food, IMHO.

I’ve been to the Gatehouse only once for a departmental Christmas Lunch. The quality of the food was quite well. Yet, though we made our choices a month before the lunch, the service was quite slow with long breaks between courses.
Worth to rest and enjoy at the picnic tables outside on dry days.

I have been to The Gatehouse several times, and can’t recommend it highly enough. The food is wonderful (be warned - the starters can be quite filling!) delicious and vey high quality, some vegetarian options. The decor is lovely, very Mediterranean, nice little alcoves to add a cosy feel to the place. The only negative is that it is not easy to find, tucked away down a small road and not well signed, but it’s certainly worth a visit.
