I had a cookery course here and we had a great time. A lot of fun. I can’t think of anywhere else you can do this sort of thing.

A wise man once said abandon hope all you who enter here and such worldly advice equally applies to this “Jameeee” owned disaster. I had had a bad experience several months earlier and vowed never to return. However despite my advice my friends said we should give it another try surely it would be good. Like Tom’s Kitchen and others this cafe relies on a name but fails to deliver on any basic level, its all glitz and hype and at best little in the way of any substance. Whilst a polite enquiry about whether eggs could be poached on rye we were left startled and bemused by what could only be described as Britain’s worst waitress who stated our chefs do not cook poached eggs and you only get what’s on the menu – thats it. It was all down hill after that. Unwittingly we asked whether she could ask the chef whether he would make an exception in our case, she returned like a fat over zealous cheshire cat beaming from ear to ear smugly saying I have asked the chef and he says eat whats on the menu – there are no exceptions – not even rye bread. Do yourself a favor Jamie fire the staff, get back to basics, serve the customer as you would a friend or just close the place – we would all be better off without this over extension of your alter ego portrayed through the village idiots.

Barista was great but was let down by Musetti coffee. Hey Jamie why not break the mould with all chefs who know nothing about good coffee and get in some good locally roasted beans?

Managed to wangle a breakfast meeting here the other week and now it's firmly on my 'Places to recover from a hangover or spend a lazy weekend morning in South london' list (yes, I'm aware that I need a catchier name for that list).
I always thought this was just a cookery school, but it'a actually a deli, cafe, coffee shop and cookery school all rolled into one.
Now normally I'm a bit wary of anything that looks a bit franchise, but thankfully at Recipease they've realised that they can't just trade on the Jamie name alone, and they've gone to some lengths to make sure everything is top quality.
I've got it on good authority that the cookery classes are well run (and having been to a few cookery classes in my time I can tell you the prices are very reasonable); the deli section has a bunch of books, kitchen equipment and tasty looking stuff for your larder (I don't have a larder either, but you know what i mean); and the food and coffees they've started serving up are top notch.
I can recommend the cheese and ham croisaant - it's a beauty!

Rhian19, 19 April 2010:
This is a great concept store from a great ethos. The basic gist is learn to cook, but this isn't your average cooking school, in fact there's nothing average about it.
They have cleverly created a DIY centre, from ingredients, to specialised cooking tools, to lessons, you can walk in a novice and leave with what is essentially Jamie's kitchen.
Originally that was the extent of Recipease's offerings, however they have no included a great menu and employed some pretty flash barisitas, so you can sit around and watch the action happen in the central kitchen station.
Their classes are hugely popular (check out knife skills) so you will need to book in advance. Expect to have a laugh, be engaged and have a sit down meal, all for a reasonable cost (ps they do date nights too- think blind date makes you dinner under supervised circumstances!).
One visit alone has me addicted tot eh chilli jam, and the bread board rustic style, I'll be back again very soon.

Jamie Oliver has only gone and done it again. “Recipease” in Clapham (about 200m from Clapham Junction) is fan-frickin-tastic.
The basic concept is that you can do what Jamie does on the telly, in the actual shop. Friendly staff will help you whip up a curry, pork en croute, pizzas, fish pies and more in less than 15 minutes! What a great idea. All the ingredients are prepped ahead of time so making your meal is really, really simple (but fun!). The shop can probably accommodate 10-15 people all cooking at the same time and it gets very busy at the weekend (so you may want to phone ahead).
Recipease is also stocked with your usual Jamie Oliver swag - Books, cookware, jams, olives, cheeses, breads etc.
And the best thing? Read made Jamie style roast in a baking tray. They’re £17, but they’re perfect in every way. Just popped it in the oven for a couple hours and you’re done. Awesome.
Highly recommended. Venue for a Qype party perhaps??
