Found their Blaydon shop on the way to a meeting just up the road from them yesterday, had the best espresso in years and my college equally happy with her green tea!
Even managed to pick up a pack of filters for my Aeropress without having to go on line and interesting to see they have an Aeropress as one of the bits of kits for their Barisstas to use for making their customers a coffee!

From Newcastle City Life Magazine!
'The staff of Pumphrey’s Coffee Centre in the Grainger market have won a local award for outstanding customer service. The Newcastle Grainger Market Customer Service Challenge is an annual poll of the grainger market’s customers, with the winner taking home the prestigious award.
The 170 year old Grainger Market prides itself on its reputation of friendliness between staff, stallholders and customers, with the Customer Service Challenge honouring this.
This year, the award was won by Lauren, Nita, Anna and Stuart Lee at the Pumphrey’s Coffee stall, and they have all been invited to attend the prize giving ceremony at the Civic Centre on Wednesday the 15th October.
Stuart Lee Archer had this to say:
“We are extremely proud of everyone at our Grainger Market outlet. It is fantastic that their ongoing efforts have been recognised with such a prestigious award.”
Our Grainger Market stall has been in place for over 50 years, and continues to sell our entire range of coffees and teas. The opening hours are 9am til 5pm, Monday to Saturday.'

I have been getting my coffee from Pumphreys for a couple of months now and it never fails to impress. Reasonable prices and it’s always freshly roasted, my favourite daily cuppa being the Pumphreys Special Blend.
They also have a shop in Blaydon which is where I first found out about them, the staff are really helpful and know their stuff when it comes to brewing equipment!

Pumphreys have been roasting coffee beans in Newcastle since 1750. Although the roasting rooms (and factory shop) are now out Blaydon way they continue to offer wonderfully fresh coffee in the heart of the town, with their stall in the Grainger Market.
They are situated near the Clayton Street end, about half-way along (near Mark Toneys, not too far from the cheese shop, sort of behind 'The Black Garter’ - oh just follow your nose, trust me you won’t miss it ;)
They offer an amazing range of 30+ freshly roasted coffees, and sell as beans or grind to your requirements, from 100g samplers to by-the-kilo sacks for the committed insomniac-wannabe. I’ve always found the staff to be knowledgable and helpful in recommending a coffee to your taste, or letting you take a smell of the beans beforehand (but then its always fun to experiment too :)
There are a huge range of options from mild, to flavoursome, to dark, to the should-carry-a-health-warning Turkish espresso, covering organic, fairtrade, decaff and flavoured along the way. Truly something for every coffee lover!
And for those whose coffee-love veers toward obsession they’re with you every step of the way with a comprehensive array of paraphenalia from cappuccino and latte cups, to milk thermometers and frothing jugs, to flavoured syrups, and all the way up to cafetieres and espresso machines.
Even those who seek a little more variety are catered for, with a range of gourmet and speciality leaf teas, including herbal and tisanes. Plus,to round it all off, they have some great authentic biscotti (or flavoured coffee-beans if you just gotta push that caffeine fix higher!).
Can’t recommend enough for an authentic fresh coffee experience!
