Tucked away on the corner of an ancient Oxfam in town, this is a really, really small club that nevertheless avoids claustrophobia through their selection of tasty beers, cool clientele and faultless live music policy. Three times winner of ‘Best Nightclub’ and ‘Best Live Music Venue’ at the annual Leeds Bar and Club awards, I have seen Saul Williams, TY and Slum Village all perform here, and it truly feels like one of those intimate gigs where you definitely would have become friends with the stars if you could have, you know, talked to them. Plus, on Sundays the now-legendary session ‘The Sunday Joint’ begins at midday until 4pm, where tables are laid, instruments are polished and you can get a better-than-average roast, a beer and listen to incredible live jazz for £5. Yes, a fiver. A veritable Sunday tradition amongst the Leeds cognoscenti, get there early to avoid disappointment.
