Tucked away on the corner of an ancient Oxfam in town, this is a really, really small club that nevertheless avoids claustrophobia through their selection of tasty beers, cool clientele and faultless live music policy. Three times winner of ‘Best Nightclub’ and ‘Best Live Music Venue’ at the annual Leeds Bar and Club awards, I have seen Saul Williams, TY and Slum Village all perform here, and it truly feels like one of those intimate gigs where you definitely would have become friends with the stars if you could have, you know, talked to them. Plus, on Sundays the now-legendary session ‘The Sunday Joint’ begins at midday until 4pm, where tables are laid, instruments are polished and you can get a better-than-average roast, a beer and listen to incredible live jazz for £5. Yes, a fiver. A veritable Sunday tradition amongst the Leeds cognoscenti, get there early to avoid disappointment.

The Hifi club is only small but is a really cool club and always has a good atmosphere. It can get a bit stuffy if it's busy but it's all part of the fun. There are often live jazz bands and on Tuesdays it is Hip Hop, Wednesdays is Northern Soul (my favourite.) Drinks tend to be very cheap and the entrance fee is usually about £4.

Without a doubt the most atmospheric club in leeds. This small underground club provides soulful and jazzy beats most nights of the week. Sundays are particularly good in my opinion, right through from sitting and having a sunday roast listening to live jazz, to the bouncing atmosphere and friendly, non pretentious night life. Stay away if your a fan of big commercial clubs!

Just up from the Corn Exchange, HiFi is pretty much the best nightclub in Leeds. They often have live bands on, especially on Sundays, and whilst not particularly cheap, they do some good cocktails. It's an electic crowd in here, never any trouble and always a lot of fun. Recommended.

The Hifi Club is a small club. It can get quite busy but always has a great atmosphere. I would recommend Northern Soul night on Wednesdays but there are other nights such as Jazz and Hip Hop
