Brilliant place to shop and eat in Manchester especially if you are vegetarian or vegan.
The shop offers plenty of choice and sells a range of food and health products including vitamins and suplements, wine, fresh food, grains, meat and dairy substitutes as well as a deli section with hot and cold pasties and cakes. My favourite is the Banana and Walnut cake.
In the basement is a vegetarian cafe which serves healthy but hearty meals for a reasonable price. The menu includes stews, soups, deserts and salads and you can also get a range of fresh juices and smoothies.
This is my favourite place in Manchester to eat and shop!

Conveniently located and offers a good range of health and vegetarian food that it is hard to find elsewhere.
I often pop in for natural healthfood bars to snack on, berries and cocoa nibs.
However it is very expensive and I have seen some of the items it sells cheaper in more mainstream health food shops so take care not to get carried away.
They also have a fresh food counter selling items such as quiches which are a healthy alternative for lunch when you are out and about.
All in all I feel this shop is a positive step in the right direction, Manchester needs more shops like this.

There is a fabu;ous range of food in this well-located store. They offer all the supplements you can think of and more. They have organic-jam-packet this store to the rafters with conscience swelling goodies. I especially like the vegan cola bottles which make you feel justified in eating sweets.
As well as ingredients they also offer some good solid vegetarian food and there falafel pitta is more than excellent. The cafe and take out services are both good, with friendly and knowledgeable staff.
They stock natural cosmetics, and there is a rail for your bike just outside.

I used to frequent this just before the refit - I love it’s 'free range co-operative’ look, the look which gently speaks 'just outside downtown’. Reminds me of a shop you’d see in Seattle or Toronto…there should be more of these!
At the time I was vegetarian, but though I’m no longer meat free I still pop in here from time to time (just as I do Unicorn) as I find the 'culture’ interesting to look at, investigate further and chow down.
This store is situated on Oxford Road just around the MMU…a few further shop fronts down you will find several pizza joints (my usual nightcap on the rare drunken excursion) and Johnny Roadhouse music store.
'Not’ meat products and unpronounceable legumes are found in abundance on the ground floor, whilst below is the vege cafe which is always worth popping into. The Vegetarian Society was founded in Manchester (spring gardens area) by a gentleman by the name of 'Cowherd’, so I’m sure he’d be in here every other day to sample the delights.

Good location and good selection of items. But some items are quite expensive and you can buy the same one cheaper at sainsbury….

Great shop/cafe for all the vegetarian/vegans in Manchester- sometimes when bands play at the Academy , and they are vegan-they pop into the cafe for breakfast! Wide variety indeed. Easy to get to on the bus!

Eight Day is a ‘most definite’ stop for all vegetarians, or indeed lovers of veggie food. There is a wide selection of products on offer, pretty much covering the whole spectrum. Always popular with students due to its close proximity to Manchester Met. University, the shop continues to thrive year after year. Occasionally there can be long-ish waits at the till, but I don’t think this ever gets bad enough to be considered a major bug-bear. I would whole heartedly recommend Eight Day to anyone wishing to get healthy and enjoy the taste at the same time.
