Princes Street Gardens are a little haven in the centre of the city, close to all the hustle and bustle but also in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle.
It is a great place to stop for lunch or just for a nice rest if the weather allows it!
In the summer there is a carousel for the children and there is also a park and a few eating stands. Best of all entry is free!

Princes Street Gardens are perfectly located in the centre of Edinburgh. Adjacent to Princes Street with all its shops and in the shadow of Edinburgh castle there really is no better place to enjoy a nice stroll or to people watch.
In the summer the gardens fill with people having picnics or stopping for a rest amidst a nice long stroll.
There is also a park and carousel in the summer months for the children and all year round there are cafes and stands with seats to eat at or have a drink on in the fresh air.

One of my favourite places in Edinburgh during the summer (not really that great in winter as I’m not a big fan of the big wheel etc though everyone else seems to like it!) It’s great during summer to go for some quiet time on yourself or in group and chill, have a few beers and people watch. It’s always very busy but a great spot for caching the sun and getting away from all the hustle and bustle…which is only a few hundred yards away from you! Great views and local to enough food outlets, toilets etc for you stay as long as you want…ah bliss!

Altough it's based right in the very center of the city I like the place becuase it's more quiet than you think. You can relax on the grass looking up at the castle, you can feed the squirrels or enjoy a picnic on a summer day. Plus it has 2 historical monuments - a hughe and very original fountain made from iron (closer to the West End entrance) and the War Monument (entrance close to the National Gallery).
Apart from that you can access the Castle from the gardes via a steep path going straight up from the base of the castle hill.
check it out for yourselves...maybe a romantic autumn walk with the love of your life??

Princes St. Gardens lie just underneath the main shopping street in Edinburgh. It's absolutely perfect for a breather from the stress of shopping - take a sandwich and a coffee down and sit and watch the world go by. Whether it's for a romantic picnic or a spot of sunbathing, it's always a nice place to be on a fine day. During the christmas period it's particularly special, with the German markets and surrounding decorations lighting up a very special place.

This is great all year around wether you are looking for somewhere to sit in the shade and read a book or entertain the kids in the summer or ice skate in the winter wonderland in the winter months, this is the place for you. Open all year round with no entry fee this is a unexpensive yet lovely place to be.

This is a great place to visit anytime of year. In the summer there are lots of visitors and locals, especially on sunny days where people take picnics or simply take an hour out of the office for lunch. Its also beautiful in the winter when there is a mini fairground, the Christmas market, outdoor ice rink and little food and mull wine stalls. The surrounding lights make it all the more special!

A real hotspot for both locals and visitors all year long. Ideal to take a quick sandwich to eat on one of the benches, or to go and spend an afternoon in the summer playing frisby, enjoying a long picnic. In December arrives, the ferris wheel, outdoor ice rink and German Market. All this on the doorstep of one of the main shopping streets of the city - amazing!

Whether its summer or winter you will find Princes Street Gardens being enjoyed by locals and tourists. I have spent many a summer day sunbathing and had BBQ's in the evening with a few drinks. At christmas time the German market and skating rink makes the whole place absolutely magical.

Princes Street Gardens run alongside Edinburgh's main shopping street and are situated beneath the castle so they offer a fantastic view. They are are great place to have a rest from shopping. There is always a lot going on. In summer the Edinburgh Festival takes place and is great fun.
