Review of Henri's from 4 March 2008

Have we all forgotten what a delight REAL shopping is? Real bread, eye watering cheese selection, specialities from French speaking heaven. Henri's Deli is a proper well presented professional food shop, French style. Why on earth do we put up with the illusion that is supermarket shopping? How much do we chuck away due to the culture of compulsive excess that supermarkets promote? And when its all said and done, after we have convinced ourselves we need all that - yet again, the shocking truth is we will have saved nothing. except possibly a very few very sad little pounds on a week's shopping. But chin up! There are good shops offering everything we need right there in Morningside Road and Henri's is on my list. Take my tip - buy local, feel the benefit and become one of Henri's! Its not just the warm welcome, the lovely atmosphere, the excitement and pleasure at popping in (but that's a rare good start don't you think?). This is food that tastes better, goes further, is actually better value. Your kitchen positively sighs with relief when you unload Henri's goodies. Go on!

Review of Henri's from 9 August 2007

Fabulous French delicatessen on Morningside Road, on the way up to Comiston Road. Fine selection of cheeses and meats, pates and breads. Great to get your Saturday morning croissants and pains au chocolat. Array of interesting preserves and French delights - good place to look for an unusual gift for any friends or family who enjoy good food. Small variety of fresh groceries, often including some interesting mushrooms. And if you have the time, stop for a fresh coffee and pain au raisin on one of the tables outside and watch the world go by - French-Scots style.
