The best cinema, although you pay for the pleasure of watching a film there. It is more expensive than your average cinema, but the seats are comfy, you get a drink and a packet of pringles and the atmosphere is better so it makes it worthy of the few extra pounds in my opinion.

The best cinema in Edinburgh. FACT.

The Dominion oozes art-deco class and makes a real experience out of going to the cinema. With the introduction of so many multi-plex cinemas during the 1990s, many feared for the Dominion's survival. However, its tradition and style make sure that this cinema stands out from the crowds.

The screens may not be the biggest, but the quality is excellent and the seats are very comfy. The downstairs bar is a nice little feature and the whole place has such a friendly feel to it.

Oh, and nothing beats sitting with a beer and a bag of popcorn whilst watching a top movie. Ticket prices are extremely reasonable too!

This is my personal favourite choice of cinema in Edinburgh. The cinema is a individual family run establishment and has a character that the big chains lack. Although the prices are higher it really is worth it. The seats are much comfier, and there is an atmosphere which is lacking in the football sized big chains screens. There is also the option of the ‘special seats’ where you can get perfect seats in the centre of the cinema with some free drinks…a great night I can assure you!!

There are often special viewings of certain films (recently Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings) which are always great to see. The cinema is always spotless and the quality of snacks that you can buy are great. Overall this is the cinema to go to if you really want to enjoy a film or to take a date to see a film.

When visiting the Dominion, I am reminded of the bit in 'Annie’ where Daddy Warbucks take wide-eyed Annie to a cinema. The Dominon, with its brass and rich red velvet décor and polished service, makes you feel as if going to the movies is really going out for a swank night on the town (or, at least, in Morningside).

The concession area offers real food, not just candy and popcorn, and a great selection of drinks, sweets, and alcohol. The theatre rooms themselves are either small and intimate, or large and decked out with sofas for cuddling. I love it.

Hey, students! Yes, you! For 4.50, you can see a movie AND have a free drink—even beer or wine! Leapin’ Lizards!!

Old-school cinema with four screens, art-deco interior, sharp-looking, tuxedo-wearing staff and the option of sofa seating. The Dominion is a cinema experience to try at least once. Screens one and two include sofa-seating arrangements that are probably more comfortable than your living room. Take your beer to the film as well as your popcorn and ice cream. Tad on the sharp side when it comes to ticket price, too, but has more character than any bland new Odeon. Good idea to book ahead. Also has small cafe it you want to dive away for a quick coffee and read of film reviews.
