Love the food, the ambiance and the beer. A real pleasure and with genuine knowledge about the producers of the meat and vegetables served.

WE WENT TO THE TAVERN AFTER MUCH RECOMENDATION. IT WAS A VERY WELCOMING PLACE WITH SUPER STAFF. WE FOUND THE FOOD NOT EXCELLENT, SADLY. STARTER OF TERRINE++ WAS BLAND TO MY PALATE AS INDEED WAS THE 45 DAY SIRLOIN. IT WAS REALLY GOOD STEAK - PERFECTLY COOKED RARE, BUT JUST SHORT OF FLAVOUR - ESPECIALLY FOR WELL HUNG MEAT. MY WIFE AND SISTER IN LAW ATE THE BREAD PUDDING WHICH WAS UNDERCOOKED WITH HARD APRICOTS AND SOGGY BREAD. THIS WAS CREDITED FROM THE BILL. SO A LOVELY PLACE WITH LOVELY PEOPLE BUT DISAPOINTING FOOD AFTER ALL THE ADVERTSIING AND HYPE.

PS MY B IN L HAD THE STEAK WITH THE PEPPER SAUCE AND SAID IT WAS GOOD - SO WHO KNOWS!
PPS TRYING THE CHEQUERS NEXT

A regular haunt when I visit Bath and an even more regular haunt for those I stay with! I can see why; a big (but not too big), airy pub with a mix of tables and comfy chairs and (joy of joys) a walled garden.
The food is great, mixing tapas style dishes to share with handsome plates of pub classics at lunch time. Or more formal (but not too posh) cuisine for dinner. Ingredients are mostly local, seasonal and very fine indeed. Just writing this is making me hungry!
