Review of Royal Sportsman Hotel from 29 October 2011

I can’t recommend this hotel restaurant enough. They offer food of all styles, from high quality cuisine to pub favourites, making it excellent for families with fussy eating kids.

Keeping the family theme, they have a piano and board games available while enjoy a drink and savour the menu.

Oh…and they have beers on tap from the local brewery, the Purple Moose.

Review of Royal Sportsman Hotel from 9 April 2009

The Royal Sportsman is a Hotel located on the High Street in Porthmadog. It has 28 double/twin rooms which are all en-suite and non-smoking. It has a bar called Gelert’s and a restaurant called Perrino’s.

On a rainy night in April we happened upon this place, as we were looking for an evening meal. Even though we hadn’t booked, the staff were accomodating and friendly. Whilst choosing our meal from the menu, we sat in a large lounge area on leather chairs. When our main courses were ready, we were shown into a large dining room area, quite grand in style, showcasing many photographs of the local area. The menu consisted of many welsh, french/italian or classic english recipes. Most dishes used local produce, I had the Welsh pork and leek sausages, whilst my wife had the Lancashire Hotpot! The portions were not huge, but the food was very flavoursome. Tempted by the homemade desserts we were not disappointed, the lemon cheesecake and chocolate fondant mousse were delightful.

A coffee and relaxing sit back down in the leather armchairs rounded off a great dining experience. One I would recommend to others.
