Edinburgh Castle is the top tourist spot in the city. The amount of history and culture within the castle walls is defintly a wonderful sight to behold. Combine this with the fantastic views at the top and the extremely entertaining events held every now and again and you have a true icon of scottlands pride , culture history and heritage!

I spent a whole cold february day at the beautiful castle, it’s totally worth seeing and taking your time as well. Even if its just for the amazing veiws of Edinburgh.
Get a Historic Scotland pass, I got one for 3 days, which you can see how many of Historic Scotland places you can see in 3 days. at about £20 its well worth it, I got in Urqhart, Stirling and St Andrews Castles and Fort George.
The little chapel was lovely, the military museums (2nd Dragoons) were interesting, it really does take a whole day to get around and take in everything.
I got a audio thingy which enriched the experience with detail, but don’t get one for all the castles you visit as you will get sick of James I!
Wasn’t really that impressed with the cafe though or the lack of choice of food, but oh well!

You are always aware of where you are in Edinburgh, because of the castle’s dominance over the city.

Heading up Royal Mile, and sitting proudly on its steep sided hill, the castle reminds of you of the dangers and intrigues of old. Visiting the castle brings you ever closer to the mystery of the past. You enter through the old gatehouse and get to explore the myriad of functions incorporated in the castle complex walls. The palace and crown jewels, the barracks and weapon batteries, the chapels and war memorials – this is a complex that will keep you busy for a good part of a day and is well worth the entrance fees!

In addition, the views from the top are breathtaking. I really do recommend a visit!

Edinburgh Castle is THE must see in Edinburgh for everyone, visiting or if you just live here!
It can be quite expensive to get into, about £12 I think, but there is so much there once you are in, you can visit the view points, the old dungeons and of course the Stone of Destiny. Once a year, one weekend in April all of Historic Scotland’s sites are open to the public for free, so keep an eye open for this and maybe try and combine it with a visit to some other sites aswell.

certainly one of the highlights of edinburgh. yeh, hardly cheap, what shadows the beauty of the place.
but then, there's so much to see. you've got full access to where the prisons of war were banged up, and how they lived and whiled away the time. there were also the dungeons for misbehaving soldiers.
the scottish answer to the royal crowns is not just placed there, but all explained through the years, which gives a fuly understand of the scottish history.
it all comes down to the 11 pounds you have to pay, certainly overpriced, but a good remembering to bear, specially if you do enjoy history

The stunning castle, towers majestically over the city of Edinburgh. Its walls, smooth, sanded, sit on an intimidating cliff which rises well above the cities roofs.

Visiting it, however, is an exasperating and rather torturous experience. Its over a tenner to get in, and simply teeming with tourists of various shapes and sizes. While the view from the top is stunning, the crown jewels, I',m sorry there's just no other word - shiny, and the structure itself oozing with legend and drama very much appealing, the throng of strangers, pulsating everywhere around you, easily killed my buzz.

I loved Edinburgh Castle, it might not be cheap to get it but I doubt it's that cheap to run the number of staff they have about the place. The crown jewels alone have enough staff to run a small country and rightly so they are beautiful. But by far my favourite place has got to be St Margaret's Chapel it's just so quaint and peaceful and has breath-taking views from the doorstep! It's a definite must-see for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

The castle is a breathtaking site rising high over the city of Edinburgh.
Even now the castle still seems to cast its eye over the city always watching ready for action.
Inside is just amazing from the Great Hall where kings and queens once held fine banquets to the dark and dingy dungeons of old.
The place is full of history with a showcase museum taking you through the life of the castle and its occupants as well as particular peoples lifes who were involved in and around the castle boundaries.

Some of the staff dress in periodic dress and are there to inform and educate.
With magnificent views over the city and a spectacular setting this is one day out that shouldn't be missed.

There is a cafe within the castle which can seem a bit pricey to some people but this does not take anything away from the experience of visiting this wonderfully historical place

Edinburgh castle provides a foreboding presence in the heart of Scotland's capital city. It is Edinburgh's most desirable tourist attraction and does not disappoint it's thousand of visitors every year. There is plenty to see and do, with the crown jewels and the infamous one o'clock gun particular highlights. It's certainly a fun day out for all the family and a place all visitors to Edinburgh should see at least once.

Edinburgh Castle is an amazingly beautiful and stunning place. The most famous building in our lovely city, Edinburgh Castle is so close at hand, sometimes we forget to visit it! But there's lots to enjoy here, for young and old. Wander around the grounds try and time you visit for the famous 1 o'clock gun, then explore inside, where you'll find the Scottish Crown Jewels, the Stone of Destiny and the National War Museum of Scotland. There's also a good cafe with tastey food and snacks.

Most weekends during the summer months there are extra events, such as a Jacobean soldier talking about his cause and the clothes he wears, or historical re-enactments. Visit their website for an up-to-date guide to events at Edinburgh Castle and at Historic Scotland's many other properties in and around the area.

It is slightly expensive but well worth the money and you leave with the most amazing memories of the most beautiful place in our City. Oh yeh and also i recommend you wear comfy shoes for all that walking...

The castle is a must visit place when visiting Edinburgh and if you live in Edinburgh and have never been. Situated at the top of the Royal Mile the castle dominates the Edinburgh skyline and is a great place to visit. You can visit the old jail cells and see The Stone of Destiny in its home. There is also a shop and a cafe and great viewing points over the whole of Edinburgh down to the Forth. It costs about £12 to get in but if you are in the military take your ID card and you will get in free.

I know a lot of us natives now shun the castle as it's now over ten pounds to get in, but for me this place epitomises Edinburgh. After spending one joyful summer working there a couple of years ago, I came to the conclusion that there's no better view in the world than that from the door of St Margaret's chapel, looking down on to Princes Street and then Fife. Yes' it costs a lot to get in, but theres easily a full afternoons entertainment. You musn't miss the beautiful honours of Scotland (our crown jewels) David's tower and the stunning stained glass windows in the war memorial. I've got to say though, I don't agree with the other reviews that the cafe is reasonable- it's extortionate! Over £10 for four coffees and £3.80 for a piece of cake!

Beautiful castle situated on vocanic rock high up in the centre of Edinburgh. This is everything you imagine a true austere castle to look like. It is one of the reasons Edinburgh is so beautiful and a huge part of history and heritage lies here. The views are oustanding so even if you are not interested in the history it's still worth a visit.

If you are visiting Scotland then you have to visit Edinburgh Castle, you can see it from Princess Street (one of Edinburgh's main Shopping streets, right beside Waverly train Station) In the evening it is beautifully lit and from a distance is is simply beautiful. Like the tradition of many castles, there is gun fire @ 1pm and many gather to listen. The best time to see the castle at night is during the Edinburgh Festival (August) or at Christmas when the council organises amazing fireworks. During the day the Castle is open for visitors and you can even enjoy a lovely cup of tea, reasonably prices in their Castle cafe.

The castle is Edinburgh's most popular tourist attraction. People gather every day for the gunfire at 1pm which has been a tradition for hundreds of years. Allsorts of events take place at the castle and the walk up to it is beautiful. There is a cafe for you to enjoy a nice drink and snack.
