you cannot miss edinburgh castle if you are here :) its beautiful, i love it at night . it light up the whole area.
i have been to the castle itself , and I payed a quite high number to get there because I invited two other people ! I think tickets should be a bit cheaper!
From the inside , there is nothing much to see , I mean i though I was gonna be taken back in time to see all the old things and maybe go inside the castle and see the furniture and stuff , but no , you can only see the open space and some indoor museums ,
I have to say the views are quite beautiful because Edinburgh is FABULOUS :)
I wouldn’t go back though bcz I just did not feel like i was taken back in time!!
I recommen Holyrood palace if you like takin a look back at old times :)
Located at the top of the Royal Mile – which involves walking up a steady incline on cobbled road, which could be troublesome for those with mobility issues.
The castle is one of Edinburgh’s top tourist attractions and has a lot of information on the castle and its rich history. There are also a few museum sections within the castle that are worth seeing.
The price is very expensive, especially for families on a budget and there is not a lot to engage children, particularly those who find it difficult to concentrate for long periods. The cafe inside the castle is also very expensive, so it’s worth keeping hidden costs in mind.
Some lovely exhibits. jewels are especially worth seeing. But can get very busy, particularly on weekends and during peak season/school holidays.
my father got married here great day had an amasing time
Hadnt been since i was at school. had friends visiting from canada was appalled at the cost. Doesnt it belong to the people

Good for tourists, expensive,go on a calm dry day, horrible in the rain and wind!
We went in Aug 2010. We took the long walk up to the castle, my word that worked some muscles lol, but fabulous views on the way up. The castle is amazing to look at from a far, its looks quite unique from other castles.
After waiting in a long queue (best to get there early or book online) we paid around £15 each, the same as other big tourist attractions. The heavens then opened and it’s quite windy on the upper parts of the castle, but the view is stunning. There is alot of historical information available around the entire castle. We really liked the insight into the prisons and of course seeing all the jewels.
The museums within were great too.
It’s definately a must when visting Edinburgh. Such a beautiful city. I think younger children may find it a little boring and it does get very busy. We were stuck in a few rooms as it was so crowded, especially where the jewels were. Cafe was pricey as they usually are.
They were getting ready for the Tattoo so that was nice to see and we left via the Royal Mile this time.
It can’t be denied that the centre of Edinburgh is a beautiful and inspiring place to explore.
The castle adds to this experience. I had a bite to eat in the cafe, ( expensive! ) friendly staff.
Great views of Edinburgh!
Worth doing at least once, if you visit Edinburgh on several occasions then you can definitely enjoy looking at the castle from below even if you dont go inside.
very nice castle - it was my very last day in Scotland when I went to this castle. It's pretty expensive, but it is definately worth it! The almost best view over the city, only surpassed by Arthur's seat (mountain).

great attraction, pricey, well preserved and lots to do here, great views of the city, they provide free tours inside!
Plenty to see and do here. Waterproofs if it's raining though! Go to the canon at 13.00 to see and hear it being fired, can be heard for miles!

can't visit Edinburgh without visiting the castle. I've been a few times and always enjoyed it. It's on the main tourist bus routes and has a big car park near the bottom of the hill. great views over the city too.
A stunning castle with a fascinating history. The entrance fee is a little pricey but it is worth it for the views from the battlements alone. There are lots of little nooks and crannies that you can investigate, and interesting things to learn about the castle once you get inside. There always seems to be something going on there, from the Edinburgh tattoo to a private wedding. It can be a bit windy up there on the top of the hill so if you are at a wedding, make sure you hold onto your hat!
Edinburgh Castle is for all Scotland visitors a must. The entrance fee is unfortunately really very high, but it is worth. The vigil at the castle every visitor should ever have seen. There is so much to discover and explore, so you absolutely must take here some time. Is definitely worth it if the Castle is lit at night.
As we where staying near Carlisle, we thought we would make the journey up to Edinburgh to see the castle which we have been longing to visit. Its around 2 hours from where we where staying, but was totally worth it.
Edinburgh itself is a very pleasent city although due to its lack of signposts, we didn't know where to park and got ripped of £10 to park for 4 hours at the castle official carpark. After we walked up the hill the the castle, we walked through the stands as it was within days of the tatto, and qued up for nearly 30 mins to pay.
Be warned, as expected it is very expensive for admission and the cafe is also a rip off. The castle is an amazing piece of history and I advice everybody to see it someday. You even get to see the scottish crown and sword which we thought was brilliant.
The shop sells some pretty good stuff at the expected high price, but as you walk out of the castle there is a long road of shops selling similar items so I suggest checking them out first :)
In all - a great day out, but the high prices and rude foriengers spoilt it a bit.

No Edinburgh visit witout the Castle, its really worth it. We had beautifull weather with a good sight, makes it perfect!
Historic residence of Scotland's royal family, seat of their centuries-old government, or lair of blood-drinking reptoid aliens bent on world-domination?
Same difference, according to some. (Well, according to David Icke, anyways.)
But look beyond the sinister rumours and abduction stories, and can glimpse the true face of Edinburgh Castle, perhaps even the true face of Scotland.
This is a rather tacky tourist attraction, mired in convention and protocol, overpriced and quite boring. It's only the fact that you just have to go there when you visit the city that means you have to go there. I can heartily advocate giving the castle a miss in favour of checking out what the city really has to offer. Why not check out the much nicer palace at the opposite end of the Royal Mile? Why not visit the national galleries or the museum?
However, having said all that, Edinburgh Castle does have a top-notch gift shop.
Edinburgh Castle: It's big, it's historic, it has a heck of a view. There's not much I can say about the Castle that hasn't been covered by other reviewers, but I would like to make a recommendation if you're coming to town and are planning to visit just one of the local Castles/Palaces. Holyrood Palace is a much more interesting place to visit. It's also not completely mobbed by tourists most of the time, and you can take a nice walk past the peculiarly designed Parliament building on your way there.
Awe inspiring, especially for the heart of a major city - so medieval - stark - sheer - Middle Earth - fantastic.
Didn’t have time to go in, but wandered round the edges in the morning light - took some snaps - beautiful - highlight of the trip from my tiny insignificant little point of view.
Jane_Elizabeth A wonderfully impressive place, I agree, though it’s been many years since I last visited.

Edinburgh Castle is a must see, maybe on the pricey side as we first thought but once inside and with the aid of an audio guide it’s worth the price of the tickets. Had a wonderful morning there, you will need 3 hours a least to get everywhere, make the most of the place and to listen to the guide properly. The views are fantastic, but you will need a clear day to make the most of them. We walked in on an actress doing her bit in full costume and she will grab you to perform with her if you look like you are going to run… Fun, informative and delightful visit.
much smaller than expected but plenty to see and get in a bit of exercise while going round the different areas. gun salute is a must as the children get really excited about it and enjoy the running around. the views are wonderful
