Review of Cafe Maroush from 26 October 2009

I had the grave misfortune of visiting this place yesterday. This is maroush cafe one of a chain of 6-7 maroush restaraunts on this road. In fact it is a cartel serving poor quality food, lousy service, and overpriced crap.

We walked in, and my female friend said politely "a table for two please", and this muscle bound gorilla, barked "WAIT 2 minutes" and turned around and walked off!!!!!

He returned 20 seconds later and ushered us in, the way stubburn cattle are ushered into a pen.

I walked in to see the restaraunt was almost totally empty, so what the hell had the "WAIT two minutes" bit been about.

Than he insisted we sat on a table close to the stairs (Why???!!)

The menus were bought in, my friend was silly enough to ask what kind of yoghurt was in a dish . The gorilla replied his face contorted with impatience "its yoghurt!" in a whiny voice.

Now I ordinarily I would have left at this stage but I was with someone who didnt know me that well and i didnt want to cause a scene.

The food duly arrived, our £3 colas were slammed on the table with the waiter rudely interuppting us while we were talking.

NOw the FOOD! This was frankly the most ill conceived, sod u and dont come back "dis-comfort" food i have ever had the misfortune to eat. The rice was full of salt,no taste, luke warm, not basmati and served in a cereal bowl! The moussaka looked like heated up pedigree chum , and to add insult to injury they didnt provide any plates to put the food in! You were expected to eat the food in the plate it had been served in. When i did query this, the surly waiter gave me a plate the size of a tea saucer. Thanks pal!

The damage was £32 and we left with empty stomachs, the waiter couldnt care less. One less customer to pester him

Avoid this restaraunt as visiting this place is akin to visiting a sado masochistic parlour, you should expect to be humiliated , your ego beaten, and left light of purse.
I only give it a 1 out of 5 as qype doesnt allow 0's!

Review of Cafe Maroush from 22 May 2009

I visited Maroush in may 2009 and I will never go to there again. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone because the service is really bad and the staff is so rude towards their customers.
They served us wrong food - kidneys to a vegetarian!
Forced us to change table during eating to a table next to an open window where cold air came through. They said we had to move there, did not tell us why? All the other tables were NOT occupied.
One of my friends at the table was not given a fork when the food was served, and when we had asked for it three times during 30 minutes, the waitress asked me “What is wrong with you?” and started screaming at me.
We were never served our drinks or the food we had ordered, only the wrong dishes, and we talked to the manager, but they forced us to pay anyway. We did because we just wanted to leave that horrible restaurant and unprofessional staff! I do not think I have ever been so embarrassed.
The prices are too high for that poor quality restaurant. There are much better restaurants in the area. Do not go to Maroush IV!

Review of Cafe Maroush from 17 November 2008

so last week, im outside maroush and very keen to go in for a drink and a bite to eat. we walk in and say 'table for 3’ please in our politiest tones and the waiter asks what we are after. we explain a simple mezze or something and he responds with 'Sir, it is 25 pounds a head” intonating that 3 20somethigns of our gait couldnt possibly afford his restaurant. we persisted but he was fairly adamant. it was so rude as to be humorous. i will never go back again.
as for the food it looked average at best but then i would say that.

boswellperkins Exactly the experience i had mate and if you google it countless others!

Ah, Maroush. Yes, it’s a London legend, and quite a tradition to pop in after a fairly heavy day on the cava at Lords. I must warn you though, despite what Rhodri says, this place is actually nowhere near the home of cricket, and you’ll need at least one bottle of wine to drink on the street as you trek there.

Once inside, I was quite overwhelmed by the events of the day, and promptly fell asleep on the table. So, no real commentary on the food. I have the say though, the one on Old Brompton road is spot on for a chicken schwamer… (sp?!)

Review of Cafe Maroush from 23 September 2008

After a trip to Syria earlier this year during which every single Syrian we met, on learning we were from London, asked if we had eaten at the amazing Lebanese restaurant, Maroush, on Edgware Road, I was expecting great things. Unfortunately it didn’t quite deliver.

The selection and quality of mezze was really good, if fairly expensive. The biggest dissapointment was the abysmal service. Despite having a huge amount of staff - some rearranging plates on unused tables; a fair few wandering around avoiding catching anyone’s eye; one to ask if you were ready to order, but not take it; one to ask to ask another one to bring you a drinks menu - it took an absolute age to get any kind of service out of them.

I would return to one of the other Maroush restaurants to give it another chance, and hope they were just having an off day, though despite what the Syrian’s say, I’d rather find somewhere without the overly inflated prices for the 'novelty’ of having Middle Eastern food. And somewhere that you can be in and out in under three hours.

I've only ever had a kebab here, and at the time I thought it was pretty good. Then I moved to manchester and discovered the true meaning of the word kebab. Nevertheless, the kebabs here are ok, although they are too small, too expensive, and sometimes made in advance so they're not even that hot when you get them. I've been told that the food in the main restaurant is really good, but expensive, as you'd expect in this area of London.
