Dreary inside? The main bar/seating area has large windows that throw terrific natural light!! The decor is somewhat spartan but perfect for a nice simple pub. friendly staff, very good pub food and ale. Incomprehensible how you could give one of the absolute finest pubs in Bath only 1 star. Baffling.

Looks good from the outside, but very dreary decor inside. Could do with a makeover. One can see why only locals use it.

Read Phil's review for the details. This place is even nicer in winter with a roaring open fire to welcome you in from the snow. The food is excellent, well priced and uses local produce as much as possible. The classic dish at the Pulteney Arms is their bangers and mash (choose from about a dozen varieties of sausage) washed down with a pint of Bath brewed Gem ale.

Ah, to spend a saturday afternoon outside the pulteney arms, quaffing bath ales finest...heaven. Set a little off the main road, you can sit on the pavement tables, lean against the wall and watch the world go by. Late afternoon sun bathes the area. The ales are fantastic, and the food isn't half bad either. Coupled with friendly staff and unobtrusive TV, it's a really nice place.
