Great food, but watch out for the busy times as staff are not the best during this time!
The last time i went, the experience was not the best, thats why its 3 stars for me. It was cold outside, and they had the AC on full blast making it very uncomfortable to seat without shivering!
The staff tried to re-locate us however the first 2 members were less than helpful, the third was great!
I would not return any time soon, just purely based on the last visit. If you havent been, do try it for the food!

Definitely one of my favourite restaurant in Birmingham. Not only does the food taste amazing but the staff are consistently nice and friendly. Really makes every visit worthwhile because the staff can never do enough for you.

Lovely place to eat in Birmingham, really relaxed atmosphere offering good quality handmade food. I am a vegetarian so burger restaurants aren’t usually my thing but there were plenty of vegetarian & fish options, more than i’ve seen in most restaurants (in fact the whole menu was extensive, everything looked great) …I had the sweet potato burger which was delicious. Great sized portions, chips & blue cheese sauce were to die for!!! Didn’t think it was at all over-priced for what we got. Great service and helpful staff too.

Had buy one-get one free vouchers for here and they didn't seem very impressed. The salad we got free (supposed to be around £8) was just a bowl of leaves and it had NO dressing on despite saying it should on the menu. The burgers were ok though but overpriced.

Pricey considering it's a burger joint.
Not a massive meat eater (so this is never my choice of venue), but the choice of burgers is staggering. I go for the fishfinger sandwich, which is pretty good. The chips leave a lot to be desired though, and are far too expensive for something that really ought to just come as part and parcel of the burger.

My favourite place to eat in Birmingham! Absolutely delicious burgers. A bit pricey but well worth the visit. In a great area of Birmingham with plenty of bars near by to go for a cheeky drink afterwards. Lovely décor inside as well. Big thumbs up for this place.

The Handmade Burger Company is part of the same family of restaurants as Urban Pie and the Mash House. With the same laid back, chatty style as its siblings, this somewhat upmarket burger joint has proved to be incredibly popular with the pre-NIA crowd as well as those beginning their night out on Broad Street. Situated right on the edge of the canal, the restaurant offers a light, open view to the outside, making it less dingy than you might expect from its ground floor position.
The food is reasonably priced, although the drinks and side orders can soon expand your bill as fast as your waistline if you get carried away. That said, they run an ongoing 2-for-1 offer on all burgers if you're able to locate the promotional leaflets.
There is a huge variety on offer here, with the menu divided up into the various beef, chicken, lamb and vegetable burgers, and much more besides. They serve booze as well as hot and cold drinks, meaning it is just as well suited for families as it is couples dining, while being spacious enough to accommodate group bookings.
The staff are attentive, enthusiastic and friendly. Tables are cleared promptly, and food always arrives in good time. Even when the place is packed, you don't have to wait long to be attended to and seated. I strongly recommend this place as somewhere with great food, great service and that doesn't take itself too seriously.

visited here on thurs about 630pm on thurs 25 mar fairly busy was not impressed had to change chairs because it was sticky and dirty the glasses for our drinks were dirty had to send them back timings from ordering were average / ok
the cajun chicken was very bland with the spicy mayo not very spicy at all my beef with avocado and bacon was dissapointing menu small print says the mayos are flavoured with the menu choice i.e cajun mayo was slopped onto the burger and the avocado dip was slopped on to the burger so you do get what it says on the tin shame there wasnt a 2 for 1 deal it would hv made this a bit more of an enjoyable experience wont bother again just ok shame

Absolutely fabulous food can be found at the adorable, canal-side Handmade Burger Co. Unless you're a vegetarian -- but they even have five different options for you!
A chain of restaurants with the headquarters in Leicester, the HBC is a really cute idea carried to fruition (beefition didn't sound right). The decor is always minimal, with wooden floors, wooden or metal tables and chairs, and cute little touches. I particularly like the bags of potatoes and grains and the barrels placed around the restaurant.
Much like Nando's, one goes up to the counter to order food, which is then delivered to your table. For a burger joint, HBC has a great selection of wine, bubbly and beer.
Their burgers are good, and this is coming from a very uneasy carnivore who was a veggie for many years. But they are goooood. I'm talking Argentinian-parentage-grain-fed-reared-under-the-Texas-sun 100% gorgeous beef. HBC are responsible about their beef, and make sure it's all fully traceable, ditto their grains and taters.
The options are really fun -- some of my favourites include the Chicken Satay burger, the Balti burger (with Balti sauce and fresh coriander), and the Vegetarian Mushroom, Pesto and Mozarella.
They offer smaller burgers, salads, fish options and so many different ways to spice up a cow, the mind boggles.
The service is very friendly and efficient, the atmosphere nice and relaxed. Were the sun ever to shine on this Blighted island, you could even sit outside the restaurant in one of the canal-side seats and soak up the sun.

Visited Handmade Burger recently. Great service and delicious food. I opted for the sweet chilli chicken and my husband had the lamb and mint beef burger. Both were amazing. We also had sides of onion rings and tasty chips. We would definitely go back again as it's great food and great value for money, especially when they have a 2 for 1 offer running like they do at the moment.

however
the food is great and as you walk through brindley place the smell gets to you
the fish finger sandwich is a master stroke

Would it be bad to say I actually think the burgers here are too big? Well, I’m saying it anyway!
The restaurant is really nice, and as its next to the canal you can have amazing views of it anytime of day or night.
The food is pretty darn good here, the chips were better than the burger though I’d say - they were amazing! Better than any other restaurants!
The prices are very good here, especially when you can find a BOGOF deal for this place.
The only fault as I said before, the burgers are really big and the buns not very sturdy, so either get messy with your food or be posh and use your knife and fork.

GleekyAnt, 31 August 2010:
My family and I recently ate out here on a Sunday lunchtime, straight after a Cbeebies concert at the NIA.
The restaurant was very very busy, but the staff were incredibly accomodating an arranged for 2 smaller tables to be pushed together for us, so that we wouldn’t have to wait for a larger one to become free. There’s a lovely atmosphere - relaxed but bustling. The decor is great and the piled up sacks of potatoes are a nice touch!
The restaurant is self service and the queue at the counter was very long. I’d say that it took as long to queue as it did for the food to be brought to our table.
The food was worth waiting for - it was delicious. My children loved their fishfinger burgers and the chips were amazing! I do agree that the meat burgers are a little drier than I’d have expected, but perhaps that’s because the meat is unprocessed and has much less added fat than traditional burgers? My only complaint is that the mint sauce was overpowering - I’d have preferred a small bowl of it on the plate so that I could have added my own.
In short, I’d definitely go back here. It’s fantastic for an ethical, healthier burger and chips.

I have eaten here several times and always find the food and service perfect - even though I'm a vegetarian and I take the kids I look after, there's always something to please everyone!
There's a 2 for 1 voucher at the moment!
ENJOY!

Would not recommend eating here. The burgers are very dry and not very tasty, which you do not expect with the price you are paying.
The only good thing about this place is the hand cut chips which were well cooked and tasty.

When this venue first opened the food was excellent and well worth the extra money for an extra good quality burger. However, on the last two occasions I have eaten here the burgers have been overcooked, dried out and luke warm. I won’t bother going back again. When I pointed this out yesterday evening I was firstly told that the burgers were cooked fresh to order, and could therefore not be dried out and nearly cold. When I pointed out that there had been cooked burgers lined up on the grill when I placed my order, and my burger had appeared in about two minutes flat, the member of staff concerned admitted that there had been a concert on at the nearby NIA and they had cooked a large quantity of burgers to cope with the rush and I had probably had one of those. As it was nearly 10.00 pm at the time, and the NIA concert began at 7.00 or 7.30 pm, my burger had presumably been cooked about 2 hours before I ate it. Not exactly cooked to order! It was pretty disgusting really, but the chips were good!
