The layout and location of this particular store are excellent.
My customer service experience was very poor. I ordered a wireless router and was told it would take 1 week as it was out of stock and they would ring when it arrived. No call. I was patient and chased once, then again and when I rang the second time I was told that it probably wouldn’t come at all and pretty much ’ I wouldn’t bother mate’. Generally the till staff are friendly but I can’t let go of my bad feelings. Now Zavvi has closed own I am in a bad situation but I am living with it.
HMV is a large store selling all the the newest music cds, dvds and video games for play station three, nintendo wii, playstation two, nintendo ds, xbox 360. they also sell a few posters and music/film character t shirts. i tend to find that the prices are very good in this store and often the cheapest i can find any where.

The main thing that irritates me about music shops, is spending ages finding what your looking for. I never have that problem in HMV, where everything is put into sections by genre, then sorted alphabetically across the shelves. They also have inserts to show what letter your at, so it makes finding what your looking for a breeze. They also have a massive selection, but the price doesn’t quite compare to that of play.com or amazon…

A good, always worth a look if in the area store right in the middle of the Newcastle high-street. Typical HMV really, large selection of CDs (though never that obscure, awesome CD you want to buy but can get from Amazon) at typically static retail prices. There are some outliers such as certain albums much more than anyone should be willing to pay for an album (see £16.99) and the occasional on offer CD that is just right for that impulse buy when you don’t want to wait for online delivery. Not the best place to go for CDs if you are willing to wait a day or so.
DVDs and Blu-ray movies can be more reasonable if you are lucky and are around when a movie you intend to buy is on offer or bundled with another in a two-for-one offer with a movie you’ve heard of but never felt any compelling reason to buy (until now). Blu-ray particularly has the tendency to be subject to bundling as most don’t really go flying off the shelves in a hurry so there can on occasion be a hidden gem in HD for a good price if you are patient.
More often than not Blu-ray prices can make you want to throw up a little bit, with certain movies that weren’t even blockbuster material commanding £25-£30 to keep you moderately entertained for a couple of hours, all the while wondering if you can be bothered to watch the extra, exclusive director’s commentary in which you half expect said director to be giggling under his/her breath for the entirety of the movie at managing to trick you into buying their savagely mediocre movie for twice to four times the price of SD. To sum up the Blu-ray/DVD buying experience:
Stay near the front of the store where the offers are and you will walk away happy-ish because you have something to watch tonight at the same cost as the couple of bags of popcorn you bought that will end up all over the blanket you’ll be curled up in. Proceed deeper into the store and examine all the prices and you will more often than not leave but with some good ideas of what to add to your Netlix queue or Amazon basket.
HMV’s games department (currently located on the bottom floor) is somewhat familiar to how you will have experienced the other departments but with the added bonus of the staff running around with 're-play’ stickers tagging them to every cellophane coated box (clearly they felt a sign near the desk was much too subtle). These stickers do mark a change over last year as it indicates that HMV too has got into the soul crushing business of the used games market. As I say with every store that employs this practice, don’t do it. Sure, that £12 you can get for the latest AAA title will be nice for a little while but if you put it on eBay instead you will get much more for it and HMV don’t get to charge a 300% mark-up on it. Not an ethical thing for games companies to get more money (that whole argument is ridiculous, once you’ve bought the game it should be yours to do as you wish, sell it on to someone else, the company got paid).
Game prices never seem to be cheapest here and taking ten minutes or so to look around elsewhere will inevitably lead to an extra £5 left in your pocket. They don’t much care for competing in the games market so prices stay at RRP £39.99 for a long while (bought GRiD for a friend six months after it came out and it was £44.99, silly me)
Anyway, I write too long reviews when I could be better served just saying:
You will rarely leave feeling you have gotten a good deal but there is a good selection and the instant gratification is nice. Always worth trying other outlets as well, never hurts to shop around. The staff seem pretty decent, very efficient. One minute you are joining the queue where all of the iPod accessories are that always seem to sell but no one ever buys and the next you have a bag and a receipt.

This is a big store spread out over three floors and has a good stock of the usual chart cds, games ect.The prices are good, around the best on offer offline.Don’t expect to find anything out of the ordinary though. If you want that you’ll have to go elsewhere or put in an order directly through the store.I always try here first though as it’s a good place to shop overall.

Some very good offers instore right now compete with a lot of online store prices. There’s a varied selection of old and new stuff in this store - good range! It’s a typical HMV store with CDs, DVDs, electronics, some books, music T-shirts, posters etc.
The store occupies several floors and there’s a small but adequate lift for customer use at the rear of the store. Today I noticed that part of the shop has a peculiar and unpleasant whiff of mould but luckily it wasn’t where I wanted to linger and browse.
Plenty of staff members were walking the shop floor to help needy customers and the till staff were pleasant and courteous.

HMV is a great store; the premises are located in the centre of one of Newcastle’s busiest shopping streets. Because of this the shop is extremely easy to access and travel to. The premises are spread out over 3 large floors; the basement has gaming, the ground floor CDs and the upstairs stocks DVDs.
The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Always has some sort of great deal on. Highly recommended.

Every city needs a HMV and Newcastle is no different. Located in the middle of Northumberland street and between two main metro stops (Haymarket and Monument) making it very easy to access by people unfamiliar with the area. The store itself is spread out over 3 floors. The top being mainly DVDs, the ground floor is CDs, Electronics and special offers then below ground there is the games floor (previously easy listening). The staff are always helpful and friendly in my experience and they usually have the best offers on new releases.

Everyone knows the name HMV. Located smack bang in the heart of Newcastle’s main shopping thoroughfare, Northumberland Street, HMV is a large sized CD, DVD and Game emporium. If you are after all the usual commercial releases then this is the place to come (if looking for a rarity you might not be as lucky, but it is likely to be stocked on their extensive website), and has become more competitively priced in recent years due to the threat coming from cheap internet shopping websites.
The best time to visit is the sale when you can pick up DVDs and CDs for a couple of pound each and can come across real classics and discover new ones.

This is situated on Northumberland street right in the city centre. It is easy to walk to and always has loads of stock so you can always find what you want. Prices are normally quite competitive but some things may be cheaper elsewhere. The store has a very large cd floor, as well as dvds and games upstairs. It now also stocks ipods and accessories. If they don’t have something in stock, it can be ordered for you and they will get it in quite quickly. There seems to be plenty of staff and they always seem to be friendly and helpful.

Spread over three floors, it’s a decent sized version of your favourite trusty chart CD, DVD, book and game store. If you can’t find something in-store, they will try and order it in for you. This includes imported versions. The usual band t-shirts and posters are available as well as novelty t.v show gifts. Staff are all fairly young and helpful enough. Student cards offer 10% off but don’t expect to get discounted event tickets. I remember getting 15% when I used the card to place my first order online. There are always sales going on here and it’s worth a browse even for nostalgia’s sake.

HMV is a complete store entertainment wise. It sells everything from posters to cds to computers. All the equipment is of a high standard and the latest releases. The store has 3 levels which are seperated into different categories i.e. downstairs - cd's, upstairs - computer games etc. This makes it easy to get around the store if you know what you want.
