Review of The Cheshire Cat from 7 June 2011

We stayed here after a wedding at another venue. Having checked in at 3pm, the Cat seemed like a delightful pub, attractive, it doesn't have a stale beery smell, the rooms are clean and the service was friendly.

Unfortunately, returning at midnight, the place was a nightclub, with a superb outdoor area (if you planning on partying the night away). Not so great for the poor souls (us) who's room was essentially in the middle of the courtyard where all the smokers hang out, with full volume music banging away until past 2am. We had to make our way to the rooms via the club, as the back gate usually open for residents was closed to stop late entries to the club.

After a very broken night's sleep, we looked forward to the interesting breakfast menu. 40minutes after ordering eggs royale, we received luke warm, unseasoned scrambled eggs with slices of slightly dry salmon, on less than perfectly toasted muffins. Had i wanted scrambled eggs, thats what i would have ordered. I wanted poached eggs, and hollandaise as per the menu. After such a long wait, i wasn't risking sending it back to wait another 30 minutes. Friends at the next table ordered 15 minutes after us, and received full english, although the modifications were completely wrong- mixed up wrong types of eggs, wrong coffee etc.

Final moan- the room/bathroom has no door. Not ideal for a romantic getaway! Privacy would have been nice...

Now Curshaws at the Cat is something very, VERY Special!!

Used to be known as the Cheshire Cat which used to be one of the TOP venues in the 80’s in Cheshire for Disco Nights out of which I was fortunate enough to be part of.

Now after a £500,000+ refurbishment & now known as Curshaws this is an incredibly stylish pub to be seen in, its very traditional, stacked with wood beams NOT fake but real. This pub is stacked with history & the decor is simply outstanding.

This is a MUST visit if your in Nantwich!!

The drinks are not cheap & you have to be over 21 to drink in here unless you are eating. However its more than worth the extra.

5 stars, hard to fault although the staff turnover is quite high & not a pub for real ale which is a real shame as I think this would make this pub truly outstanding. However I would strongly recommend a G & T in here very well made! Also the Hogarrden White Beer is a must too!

One last mention to the live Music they have hear now & again, Cameron Is a great singer & a great night out if your lucky enough to be out in here when he is playing.

Curshaws is one of my Favorites Pubs in Nantwich, just lacking real ale which is a shame, however more than made up with the Hogarrden & G&T’s.

The Staff are friendly although they can seem a bit rushed & stressed when busy & a Smile more often from them would be nice, however I do feel for them as this pub can get very busy at peak times.

Cool place to be seen in around town. However, too small and cramped for my liking. Quite claustrophobic if you are tall!

What a great place. Its partly a black and white half timbered building with modern all glass additions. A mix of old beams and comtemporary modern design that really works well. Its got a brilliant ambiance a real huge coal fire ( warm and welcome on a cold wet January evening) comfy leather sofas as well as a good outdoor area with heaters. The menu is wide ranging and reasonably priced and the standard of cooking is above average. Menu options include specials on a Wednesday of 3 courses for £9.95 or 2 for £7.95 from choice of about 4. The tapas is also good and if you sign up for a gold card theres 10% off Sun to Thurs. Live music is also offered. Cameron was brilliant recently. I went on a Wednesday and it was almost full. I would advise booking, especially at a wekend as its packed out most of the time. A good sign, next door's bar was empty last night. I would really recommend this as I feel it will appeal to all ages and tastes and as an added bonus the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful too.

There are 3 Curshaws in the area. i have only been to this one, but if the others are like here then they will all be fab.
The food here is excellent, English/European, and not a bad price. They serve day and night with a specials menu too so there is loads of choice, really fab food. The bars inside and out have a trendy decor and its kind of quirky with lots of different rooms to move around in.Upstairs is the restaurant and a lounge area with comfy sofa's. They also have luxury hotel rooms/suites here so you can eat, drink and stay over. All the rooms are designed differently and are quite unique.
This is a funky and cool place to go!
