It was only until after I had devoured my meal that I noticed the large selections of Ales they have on offer from breweries across the country. My friend indulged in a reasonably priced IPA whilst I had a Coke as I had to drive home.
Well, the car got left outside overnight, I couldn't drive home in the end. Crowds of chain smoking revelers outside were anticipating the arrival of a band at one of the Hares' two live music rooms. I noticed that UB40's first ever gig took place here in 1979 - commemorated recently with a PRS Music Heritage award and plaque - to establishing itself as one of the top small music venues in Birmingham. We were in for a good night!
We had a few more ales and the band came on in the Main Room. The acoustics and smaller intimate feel of the venue put a big smile on my face, so did the band, so did the night. The Hare and Hounds is definitely the place to visit.
I went to the Hare and Hounds to see Esben and the Witch and two other bands last week and I can tell you this is a great music venue.
The pub is divided in two floors and several rooms, with the upstairs reserved for gigs. The space upstairs is great, with good service and fairly cheap drinks.
The actual pub downstairs is lovely, with big leather chairs and comfy sofas. There is a great choice of drinks and I heard the American southern food is great (it looked great!) I shall return very soon to try it.
Overall the Hare and Hounds is a great place with a great atmosphere and an interesting crowd - very different from your typical Birmingham pub.

Since it was refurbished a couple of years ago, The Hare & Hounds has been transformed into arguably the best small-to-medium live music and comedy venue in the whole of Birmingham. Located right on the High Street of Kings Heath and accordingly very easy to access, once you get inside the pub it can be a little disorientating if you're a newcomer.
Although the live music room is upstairs, if you try to get there by simply walking up the stairs when you enter, you'll be told that you can't walk down a certain corridor, and have to take a long and convoluted path that leads outside, through the smoker's courtyard, up a narrow set of external stairs and then back inside the pub.
Minor gripes aside, the pub is huge and has a great atmosphere. The crowd is very laid back and the staff are very friendly. The drinks selection is decent enough and the prices aren't too bad, but worth paying due to the simple fact that this is one of the best pubs in Brum by a long shot. Well worth the journey.

Nice, large traditional pub away from the "chain pubs" of kings Heath and Moseley. Good selection of beers and spirits, if a little pricey in comparison to other pubs in the area. Bar staff not the quickest, or most observant to who is next, but I would still recommend visitng.

This place was done up a few years ago and it’s doing pretty well still considering how busy it gets at the weekend. Nice atmosphere in the bit of Kings Heath (York Road) which is becoming a bit chi chi!
Regular live gigs upstairs (2 function rooms) and different nights (Stitches and Hos - a knitting gp for example) host various groups.
not eaten there but supposed to be good. nice and friendly staff
if you like interesting buildings it’s a victorian. seating outside the pub so you can watch kings heath go by, as well as in the courtyard for smokers.
recommend as it does interesting things and has breathed life into what was previously not a very interesting pub.
factoid - i heard that the beatles had played here! might just one of those urban myths

The Hare and Hounds is not just the best pub in Kings Heath but arguably one of the best pubs in the whole of greater Birmimgham! It has a fantastic selection of ales and spirits and often has some excellent promotions on popular drinks. A lot of money has been invested in the pub and the interior is sleek and modern without a blemish in site.
The pub consists of the ground floor which contains the main bar and a wide spacious seating area, there are also a number of large screens installed for those wanting to watch the football. Upstairs is a large room which is used for live music and performances. It has a capacity to fit around 200 people. There is also a smaller bar upstairs, so you can get drinks withotu having to go downstairs during a performance. There isn’t another pub in the area that is both an excellent pub and puts on good live music and entertainment.

The hare and hounds recently had a refurb that turned the dreary, old fashioned high street pub into a more youthful hip venue where live music can now thrive. The decor inside is very pleasing to the eye and the huge room upstairs that could easily hold 140 people is great for live music. The beer is modestly priced and the bar staff are friendly. All in all it makes a nice change from always going out in Moseley. Definitely worth checking out.
