One of the really nice and enjoyable market in London. Located in Notting Hill area in Portobello road, this market lets discover a variety of goods: antiques, bric a brac, clothes, all in the street.
Houses there are cute and colorful and the area is quiet and lovely to have a walk.
I think everybody can find something there: all type, all budget, all genre…
I advice to go there on the mid-morning to get lunch on a sunny day, like an english pie ;). By this way you will have time to walk around, to loose yourself in this discovering and to allow time for relaxing: do not be on the rush ! You will have lot of choices to buy some fruits for desert :p.

A vintage market, following the reputation of London: Lovely and enjoyable!

NB: many shops are qyped there ;)

Went to the market on a saturday afternoon and got there a bit too late, but still got to get a taste of the place. The market sort of transitions from food to fashion and has a good range of items for sale. Some of the stalls are a bit pricey, so if you’re going for produce, wait until the end of the day and pick up what people are selling at discounted rates as they are packing up their stalls. The market is a good size, but is very touristy now. The area is pleasant, a little posh on the outskirts. Not a bad activity but its hard not to spend money, and it’s not too cheap!

Packing in everything you could want to find in a market stall before Christmas into a tiny square-footage of Portobello back streets, this world-famous market is a cut above. Stalls selling antiques, jewellery, bags, jackets, knick-knacks, art and lights pile up on each other, clamouring for attention. The vendors are extremely knowledgable and usually happy with a spot of bartering, and there are some excellent cafes and food joints close by. Add to that the boutique heaven that is the Portobello road, and you’ve got one of the best shopping areas in London. Open Fri and Sat.

Dislike this market. Over-rated. The market deals with mainly 2nd hand furniture and some unique independent jewellery. However, beware of the prices as some can be very expensive (because it’s unique).

Just up the road from Notting hill, Portobello road market is a market dealing mainly in antiques and 2nd hand furniture. This is probably the longest market I’ve ever been to (must be a couple of miles at least). Once you get halfway up the market the variety of stall grows larger with food and clothing (both old and new) stalls amongst other things. As well as a few junk stalls at the very top.
It has a relaxed bohemian atmosphere a little like the Camden of 20 +years ago. Once you’ve walked up and down it(which is gonna take most of the day) if you have time I would heartily recommend taking a wonder round Notting hill second hand shops too.

Too many people, too stinky, and some of the items sold are much more expensive than your local supermarket. However, there are some fairly unique items, espcially jewellery. Worth giving it a try but watch out for ripped offs.

Portobello market is such a super market because they really do have everything… especially lots of foodie stuff. I love all the vintage clothing and gifts they sell - all really good value and such an amazing variety. the market stall holders are very friendly and dont mind if you just want to browse the goods they have on offer.

this is a great market not to be missed - you can while away so long in here without even realising it and your wallet wont hurt too much when you eventually emerge :)

This market is over-rated. Too many tourist, smelly, dirty and worst of all, I find some traders over-charge tourist if they do not speak english. Once i witness a trader over-charging a tourist by £5, simply because she doesnt understand the language. bad traders.

This outdoor market has everything. You can buy fresh fruits and veggies, find old cold war and world war two relics in a back alleyway, jewelery for your sweatheart, vintage clothing, anything and everything. Open to the public seven days a week, going to this market is something I highly recommend, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings when all the vendors come out.

Also one of those 'must-do’ experiences in London. Take a nice and relaxed stroll down the road. There are some lovely eating places on the road so make a day of it and grab some grub while you there. We walked from Notting Hill Station through Portobello Rd to Bayswater. Many small shops where you will be surprised as to what you can pick up. Great atmosphere and vibe all along this road. Sometimes you do get quite a crowd but all part of the fun. Quirky and eccentric at points. You will be amazed at what people are selling.

I think this is my favourite market in London.
You get out at Notting Hill gate tube and make your way through the residential streets. Alot of celebrities live here so it’s nice to see the big houses!
The market starts off as antiques which I am not that interested in I must admit, but its cool to have a look around.
You then head down through all the food stalls..most have big ques because some of the dishes have become real favourites at the market.
Especially the big stall that does the homemade paella, its sooo good!
I personally like the last 3rd of the market where all the London fashion students rent out a stall and sell their clothes at really reasonable prices. There is a real chance to get a one of a kind garment from an up and coming designer.
It can get very busy on a Saturday, but not as bad as you may think!

There are some nice boutique shops here and a good market, however I didnt find the prices to be that reasonable. It was more of a place, for me anyway, to look around - particularly at the jewellery shops. It is nice though just to walk through as it is quite trendy with some nice restaurants.

A fantastic market that raelly does sell everthing. I find that it is best for its food though. It has alot of really fresh ingredients, which is why a lot of chefs come here. The last time i came here, i saw 2 TV chefs hunting for veg. A TV chef is not the best, but hey, a chef is a chef, right?

You tend to find that the stalls are set out in a kind of order. If you walk past thise that sell clothes, the chances are quite high that you wont find another along the road.

If you want the atmosphere, then come on a saturday as it is always packed out. Dont come here, thinking that you will get great customer service, or that the stall owners will help you find what you are looking for, especially on a busy day. This is a great place to browse, maybe pick up some fruit and veg for the next couple of days and pick up some cheap gifts.

A culturally diverse area, you will find your suits, punks and hippys in the same place. Not many other places can boast such a diverse clientelle.

Portobello market, what can i say?
It is full of market stalls selling old antiques, jewellery, clothes food and many many other things! (Perfect place to buy christmas presents)
You get off the tube turn right walk to traffic lights and there you have it a sign pointing towards portobello market you walk down the street in anticipation all the way the hum of voices getting louder and louder!
Finally your there and all you see is row upon row of stalls, the smell of different and exotic foods in the air! Where to begin left or right?
Which ever way you choose its always a surprise of what you see there may be stalls selling world war 1 or 2 medals, helmets, binoculars then you look around you there are stalls selling Flowers, old childrens books alice and wonderland, peter pan etc. There are clothes old and new being sold bags, shoes jewellery you’d never find newhere else shiny, simple, beautiful. Everything you can imagine.
And then you reach in further the smell of strange but wonderful foods fill the air your eyes widen and your taste buds go wild, Fudge, Chocolate fruit, fresh burritos, fajitas made in front of your very eyes.
Portobello is a wonderful and joyful market and can appeal to anyone, though i would advise going early and believe me its worth an early morning!
Portobello market is everything you could want right in the heart of notting hill.

We arrived on Portabello Road @ 8:30 and it was already packed with people. If you like antiques and quirky little shops plan on spending 3+ hours minimum. My wife has a small attention span for this type of shopping, so that was our limit. If I had more time and another Saturday I’d visit again. Antiques that you don’t see in anywhere else. They seemed to have great deals on antique flat/silver ware. This is a market not to be missed. *you pass George Orwell’s house(on the right from the tube, look for the blue marker) as you enter the Market area.

My Favourite Market in London - check it out if you’re in London on a saturday! Opening hrs: 8.00am until 6.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (fruit and vegetable produce, new goods and hot food stalls), Friday (2nd hand market), Saturday from 8.00am to 6.30 pm (famous antiques market is held towards the Southern end of Portobello Road, near Notting Hill Gate. In addition to the antique stalls there are a whole host of arcades, galleries, shops and cafes + Arts & Crafts section). Cut flowers, new (unknown) designers clothing, second hand books - anything & everything crops up at this long winding street market on a saturday. You can easily spend all day here, as the area neighbourhood itself is fairly 'upper market’ & just nice to have a wander around checking it out. LOTS of trendy pubs, cafes, eateries around the area. It is PACKED on saturdays with tourists / Londoners - so be prepared! The Notting Hill Gate tube end of the market is the start of antique stalls / street market & the Ladbroke Grove tube end is clothing / arts n crafts side - this end there’s also a Banksy on a wall covered in persplex!

This is my local market. Make sure you only go on a Saturday - it is very limited on other days and most people don’t know this. Don’t miss the Humming Bird bakery for cupcakes and the giant paella stall.

It is possible to spend a whole day on Portobello Road and not get bored. To do the whole length you best start at the Notting Hill Gate end and make your way down the hill (yes, really). It starts with the famous arts & antiques market which tends to be a bit touristy later in the day - the real collectors come early in the morning. There are plenty of cafes and bars to stop for a break.
The bit between Elgin Crescent and Lancaster Road is mainly made up of food stalls - the most important section of Portobello Road in my mind. You can buy your veggies here every day of the week (half days on Thursdays), and the shops in the neighbouring roads are always worth a visit, too.
The covered market under the westway ist most fun at the weekend; there are second hand/vintage clothes on Fridays and Sundays and a crazy mix of new and old on Saturdays. Also check out the little boutiques in the Portobello Green Arcade.
If you still have energy left, carry on past the row of shops and restaurants and you will hit a bric-a-brac section which carries on until Portobello Road crosses Golborne Road which sports its own street market and some lovely shops.

Used to live near here and shop.
Last year had one of the best summer days here. We drifted around the stalls nibbling food we bought..mmm apple strudel slices! Wandering into a few pubs for a pint..bumping into record industry folk..not really shopping just looking.

There was a cosmetic stall I must check out soon..selling branded moisturisers etc for about £3.
I found a stall selling large soft leather pieces for between £1 and £3 had to get some. Also a stall selling old printing blocks like the one on Covent Garden market. Nice antiques (pricey) and clothes too. Apparently over 2000 stalls. I kept singing a song about Portobello Road that apparently comes from Bed Knobs and Broomsticks. I am sad.
Also of course one of my favourite sloppy film locations. The section around Westbourne Park Road and Talbot Road was made famous in the film 'Notting Hill’ , which starred Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. You won’t find the blue door though as it was sold.

Portobello Road Market has been in existence since the late 1860’s in one form or another. The second hand market is on Fridays, while the antiques market is held on Saturdays. Fruit and vegetable vendors, sellers of knickknacks, antiques shops, and junk shops occupy the central part of the market every day of the week.

We queued up at a stall selling falafel wraps. They were cheap, yummy and filling. Beware though they use fresh coriander and, if like me, you find the fresh stuff overpowering then ask for it to be left out. I left a little pile on the pavement I am ashamed to say.

Take either the Central, District, or Circle line to the Notting Hill Gate Tube station. (A number of buses also serve the area.) Signs at and near the station will show directions to the market.
Thing is it is a great few hours chill time..drifting..maybe shopping..eating..drinking. Wasn’t too crowded..had fun.

Portobello Market has been there for years, I used to visit as a young girl when I lived in London, and these days if I take a trip into the smoke, I love to go there if I’ve got time. It’s an absolute mishmash of ecclectic stalls. You can find everything from clothes to books to antiques to the sort of thing you’d find on car boot sales to vintage clothing and kitche items for the house. As well as this amazing mix of stalls, there’s a mass of shops at the sides which are almost as interesting as the stalls, and then there’s food from pretty much every corner of the world available too. Personally I love having a good rumage through all the vintage stuff that’s there, and then enjoying a nice dish of rice n peas. As far as markets go, this has to be my favourite market excepting perhaps one I visited in Nairobi once.

Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill is a rare thing: it’s one of the most popular London tourist spots yet also a regular stop for many actual Londoners.

It reports itself as being one of the world’s largest antiques markets. It may very well be. The end closest to Notting Hill Gate tube station is where you’ll find the antiques stalls lining every square inch of the street. Doorknobs, military belts, silverware galore, paintings, nautical instruments; if it’s old, it’s here. And then you’ll look between the stalls and realise that the doorway there doesn’t lead to a tiny shop of knick-knacks, but to a massive warren of rooms, a subterranean arcade of further shops that swarms with the seekers of the old.

The middle section of the road has the food stalls and carries produce, bread, meats, cooked food and lots more.

The far end starts to diversify, and you’ll find racks and racks of clothing, cheap packs of underwear, household goods, and all sorts of things you didn’t know you needed until you laid eyes on them.

The side streets are worthwhile visits. Not only do they give you a break from the heaving crowds of the main market area, but they hide really nice neighbourhood cafés, delicatessens and shops.

Not for people who don’t like a long walk or who dislike crowds. It’s a wonderful place to people-watch, too.

This market covers a huge expanse of West London which makes it even more of an adventure to wander the streets and soak up the atmosphere. This feels like how a London market should be, multi-cultured and interesting people, products ranging from fashion bargains to a wide selection of food. It can get very busy but I think this just adds to the atmosphere.
