Best to get an off-peak ticket as you can whizz through the all the wax models quite quickly, however the Marvel 4D is great! Not forgetting the live horror section is excellent and terrifying!
amazing day out, amazingly lifelike and so many different celebrities and famous faces. the 4d film at the end was amazing too, felt like you were in the film.
Safe in the knowledge the waxworks are not real. this is a good place to visit on your day trip. only takes an hour or so to ponder around.
Madame Tussaud's.
Queue UNBELIEVABLE (early july 2011).. 1 hour+ up the road to get to main door. Then 2 hour queue from main door to the til which is cleverly placed up the stairs, around corners, around numerous areas trying to entertain you with random facts about 'stars' posted on the walls. No where to sit aside from the floor and on the stairs about 2.30 hours in to your queuing torture.
There are 3 sets of drnks machines placed in different areas along the way... that says it all! buy a drink or die of dehydration during your wait ;-)
VERY misleading queing system. outside the main door it suggests 1 hr queue, this is somewhat true.. aparently alot longer in the heigt of summer. But no where does it tell you that it is only to the door, then inside you face another gruelling, excrutiating 2+hr queue.. once you done the 1 hour at the door youm arent likley to leave as you just invested an gour + of your time aready ;-)
I had a whole day planned out and had got to M.T's at 10 am... I didnt leave the building until over 4 hours later... when you have a London Pass bought you want to use it! not much out of it that day!
Inside alot of it is very dated and crowded in to rooms. I was expecting ALOT MORE! Was so busy you struggled to get a photo of waxworks on their own, and it was every man to himself to grab an oppurtunity to stand next to a waxy faced celeb for a snap shot.
Didnt bother with the 4D cinema.. my legs where so tired by then I just wanted to see the last of the waxworks and get out.
At the end you are led through a dark set of twists and turns apparantly meant to scare you.. ( very much like the London Bridge experience which I will also review ) Then in to chamber of horrors(?? question mark as I expected far more there!! very lame ).
when you come to leave you are ed t a very small gift shop area.. no where nea big enough for the influx of people trying to get out or buy items. I felt very claustrophobic all of a sudden and was glad to see daylight.
Not worth the money or the wait. Sorry Madamme Tussaud.. you'd turn in your grave if you could see what they have done in your name sake!
(think I prefered the 'death mask' stories to the waxworks ;-)
To busy, to expensive (28,80£/person), but it's "Madame Tussaud" Museum,it's really an institution when you visit London so it's an obligation to visit this area. I enjoyed Madame Tussaud because you can make some funny pictures with all the Hollywood Stars like Jim Carrey, Bruce Willis, Angelina Jolie etc., sportman like Lewis Hamilton, politics like Obama or Sarkozy ! Moreover, you can find reallly easily in restaurants, stations or London nightclubs some vouchers (2 tickets for the price of one), to profit of this historic London Museum !
On hot April day, we decided to head for Madame Tussauds on our cheap Tesco tickets. Not knowing what to expect, there were some highs and lows:
Highs:
- The prices of admission (OK we had vouchers, but still it 'cost' a large sum),
- The additional money required to see the Marvel 4D movie
- The Marvel 4D movie; brilliant!
- The temperature queuing, with no shade for around an hour,
- The number of rude non-British tourists being rude and obnoxious,
- The quality of most of the exhibits,
- The London Taxi ride at the end
Lows:
- The quality of some of the (older?) exhibits; The Beatles, notably
- The time it took to get round; didn't expect we would do the whole thing in under 2 hours
- The number of places to sit down.
Well worth a visit, if money and time is no object, and if I might suggest going in the afternoon; there was no queue when we left...
Ugh. I mean, Ugh. Why oh why would you come to one of the most amazing cites in the world and want to spend the whole day in a windowless chamber of kitsch? I got roped in when friends were visiting, and while it delivers on what it is (a waxworks), I was underwhelmed. The only part I actually enjoyed was the very small area dedicated to making the wax figures - the rest was UGH.
it's a unique place. what fucking good work they do. but you may pay a high price for entrance. and it's crowded with tourists. but this is usual there.
I went there a few weeks back.. Haven't been for over 20 years.
obviously new and famous wax models , but nothing really else has changed..except price of entry.
What a rip off..... at least i found something on the web offering 2 for 1 price..
with the trains fares works out an expensive day...
Purely from a content and entertainment point of view, Madame Tussaud's is a fantastic place. But, to qualify my statement, I should add that I was here for a company party and, therefore, did not have to pay the exorbitant prices to get in. I wouldn't ever pay that much for any tourist attraction, to be quite frank, but, if you have the opportunity to get in here at a reduced price - or for free - it's good fun. It definitely makes for some great photos!
i first came here about ten years or so ago with my wife and children. we had a fantastic time. we were coming from the london eye and came here on the offchance. we were fortunate that it was late night opening and we soon found (surprisingly) that there were only a handful of other visitors. we walked around able to take pictures without the crowds, taking in the good and not so good likenesses of the waxworks. the highlight was at the end when we went on the dungeons tour. there were actors that looked like wax and waxworks that looked real, jumping out and trying to grab us. needless to say, after us finding we were the last ones there even i found it pretty frightening! we all throughly enjoyed ourselves. so much in fact that years later when i was back in the capital i suggested it again. this was not a good idea. crowds, screaming kids, and being herded around as i tried to recapture the fun once enjoyed.
i would highly reccomend going here as it is a great experience. i would however also suggest that if you do go back years later to see what's new, then do so with your family, because trying to recapture happy times with another doesn't work.
first visit 10/10
last visit 5/10
its expensive, worth it with right company
I have had a great time going to Madame Tussauds the display is fantastic. The History of Medicine Floor was excellent. There is so much to learn there.
I am so glad we didnt have to pay to get in,as we had a pass that had to be used up. At £28 for an adult entry,it is extremely over priced! It is hot, nowhere to sit, younger children get pushed and shoved by so called grown ups needing to get to the wax models before anyone else to have their photos taken, children want to have a picture/suvonier to take away with them, but they were all pics with a selection of the wax celebs, which cost approx £10 each. The wax hand is a rip off after entry,£9 for the hand, then extra on top for the preservation stuff! My son loves XFactor, and done his 'audition',with the expectation of a dvd of his audition at the end of it,but at approx £13 for 1 dvd,he had to be very disappointed!
Some of the wax figures look good, while others look pretty poor, well that is going by what I could see! Too busy to actually see the displays,as constantly trying to keep an eye on where people I went with were, and where I was going!
The 'Spirit of London' ride was ok,but as I was in a car with my young son,who got on first, and with a couple of very steep 'hills',both of which caused me to start sliding down towards my 8yr old,so I had to hold on tight to stop myself from squashing him,it took away any enjoyment I may have had!
The best part, other than the exit, was the 4D experience, but after walking round with nowhere to sit, making my back ache quite badly,I was very unhappy that there had been no warning what so ever in case of health probs, when approx 4-5 times I was thumped in my already pained back, increasing my pain for the rest of the day!!
Overall this attraction is overpriced and over rated!! Would not suggest to even the richest of my friends!
So a friend had a spare free ticket to Madame Tussaud's and I figured that, having lived in London for the better part of a decade, I should finally check this phenomenon out. It was fun and gawk-worthy but I'm not sure I'd have been as pleased with my visit if I'd had to pay for it.
It was interesting to get up close and personal with whom was represented in waxwork and to see how many of the selected whom I actually had no idea were (I think I live under a pop culture rock). Some of the mannequins/statues were downright eerie they looked so real. Others, not so much.
I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed the Marvel 4-D film (four stars for that!). It was fun and made me fondly remember the comic book collecting kid I used to be.
Not sure who I'd rec this too, but lots of people there seemed to be having a blast. There's always a queue to get in. So the Madame must be doing something right!
You know what? The great thing about Madame Tussauds is that it constantly evolves. I returned here specifically to check out the new Marvel Comics Superheroes dome ( formerly the Planetarium) and was glad that even though I had been here 4 times previously it was still fun to see how it's changed.
First you view the gllamorous stars room - think Hollywood and music stars.
Newbies to look out for are Cheryl Cole and Rpattz. Then move via an Andy-Warhol themed art room into a larger Premiere Night room of movie stars and Bollywood stars. Then, on to stars of the sporting, royal, cultural, musical and political fields.
Love the great wall of baddies - look past the American presidents, you'll see what I mean!
The Scream chamber was absolutely terrifying! I hated it. Walking thorugh dim tunnel or rooms while dressed up ghouls rush at you screaming. Ugh!
after that I needed the Spirit of London ride to chill out.
Nice touch - they have a small area showing how the waxworks are made, including the eyes, skin and hair and while we were there in the late afternoon, a staff member was available to answer questions. She gave us great goss about Tom Cruise's request for stacked shoes as his model looked too short. Ha! that'll be why his waxwork is separated from Nicole's then...
Finally, the new Marvel area is cool - loved the Iron man and the Superman flying opportunity before sitting in the domed theatre. The joy is, it's 4D, so you watch a specially created 10 minute movie with 3d glasses - but movement in the seat, misting water and back pokes from the seat make you feel like you're in the movie. Very cool, if a little short. Going through the whole museum took about 1.5 hours. Great for an occasional visit with out-of-town friends, might be entrance deals with Oyster card?
Brilliant. My favourite is David Beckham
A little eaxpensive at times, the ques can also be long unless you book in advance. Howvere the attraction is awasome and you can wander around at your own pace. Photograph everything and take time to compose your pictures, the results will last a life time. Tect your friends and show them that you were talking to kyle minogue..! its that good they will never know the difference.
A little expensive but a fun day out for majority of the family :)
I have already been there twice, and it's always loads of fun! I love Madame Tussauds, most of the figures are very good. I also have made great experiences with the staff. Definitely worth a visit.
The Madame Tussaud's should have seen if you're ever in London.
We were there with the class. It was a great event. Find it fascinating how celebrities and other relevant personalities can be modeled this way. The figures looked deceptively and grab near. Sun came about great pictures.
I have also done the torture chamber with the life-Actors ... grusel been great, but not for cowards.
An unforgettable experience ... - Easy class ... :o)
