Fuel (108 euro)/insurance option were insisted on took fuel + 800 euro deposit. Only used half a tank given it was a diesel so wasted money. Took nearly 2 weeks + several emails to get deposit back.
Only positive thing was the car was new (1200km on the clock) and high spec.
Booked through DoYouSpain but they didn't respond to request for help getting the deposit back and wasn't informed of different drop off place so will avoid them also.
A better business model (same as lots of other agencies) would be make pick up and drop off the same, not have the fuel charge scam and not take the deposit even if they had to charge more for the hire as I can't believe anyone would rent from them after reading these reviews as I wish I had.
The second is that they will offer 2 options to either play for the extra insurance or pay a massive €800 deposit that is charged there and then (and I also found recently that this is not paid back for up to 21 working days after the car is dropped off).
They obviously experience this complaint an awful lot, as whilst we were queuing to collect the car, a customer was having an argument about the fuel cost with the lady behind the desk AND another couple when we dropped the car off.
There is small print that states an additional fuel cost will apply, however they really do have you pinned down when you arrive.
On the plus side we did a brand new car for our week, but I think we were extremely lucky as the couple before us pulled off with a car that looked unfit to be on the road (no hubcaps on all 4 wheels and rust).

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
We hired a car from them 28/1/13 - 4/2/13 and have still not received our £805.25 refund from the 'swiped record only' of our credit card details. This company had no right to deduct this money and they never informed us that they would do this. I have emailed them twice to ask for they money to be refunded and 3 weeks after the vehicle was returned I have still had no response to my emails nor have I received the repayment of what I now consider the theft of my money. I have had to lodge a dispute with my credit card company to try and retrieve this money and they are currently investigating my complaint with Marbesol's merchant bank.
I am not confident that I will receive this money back so please folks use another car hire company. Pay a little more but you'll have peace of mind and be £805.25 better off than we are!
They are not reputable and we believe they are conducting some kind of scam. A reputable company would not debit someones credit card when they have not provided them with any goods or services. However, Marbesol seem to differ

Update
It is now 16th March 2013 and I still have had no refund of the £805.25. I have emailed these scam merchants 3 times but not surprisingly, have not received a single response
Barclaycard are still investigating my complaint of fraud. On the positive side, we are returning to Malaga shortly so will be paying them a visit and hopefully can get the police involved.

I had to get my credit card company to deal with it, which thankfully they did.
I did get the £805 back minus the payment of approx £135 for the rental (which when totted up is considerably higher than what was advertised) but had to wait until 20th March, so almost 7wks after the transaction.
If you go again use Malagarcar.com superb service, no rip off’s, credit card deposit refunded quickly (same deposit taken as the cost of hire £158 for us).
Keep on at your credit card company, say that you are in dispute with the transaction and this should stop any interest being paid on this amount until it’s sorted. I was advised by Barclaycard that the investigation/response would take up to 28 days between them and Marbesols merchant bank.
Unfortunately, patience is what’s required, which I didn’t have!

Deposit arrived 13 days after rental ended took a few emails but pleased it was sorted out. Won’t use them again though given fuel charge, Gibraltar drop off issues and deposit charge.

MY EXPERIENCE : BOOKED VIA ARGUS WEB SITE , I WAS DIRECTED TO MARBESOL (OUTSIDE THE MALAGA AIRPORT) I WAS ASKED TO PAY A SUPPLEMENT OF 85 EUROS APPART FROM THE CONTACT PRICE.
IF I REFUSED THE GUY AT THE COUNTER WARNED ME THAT HE WOULD CHARGE ME 80 EUROS FOR FUEL (WHICH IS PURE ROBBERY AND HE WOULD CASH MY VISA CARD FOR 800 EUROS !!! ,( AND I MEAN CASH AND NOT HOLD AGAINST, LIKE NORMAL AGENCIES DO) !.
I CAN ASSURE YOU THE CAR THEY GAVE ME ( KIA PICANT 93000 KM) WAS NOT WORTH THAT PRICE !

Absolutely agree, they book all cars but seem to have only Fiat Pandas!!!!
Complete idiots and do not reflect Spain at all, just avoid these people.
PLEASE PLEASE GO TO A NORMAL CAR HIRE BUT NOOOOOT MARBESOL.Insurance is more expensive than the rent itself!!!!
Flew to Spain for a relaxing couple of days, booked through Arguscarhire, as i had a great experience with them last time when they put me with GoldCar Rentals. First of all, Marbesol not actually in the airport terminal, you have to wait for a shuttle bus. On arrival to their 'offices' (like a used car dealership), i had to wait 40 minutes to to been seen, despite there only being 2 people ahead of me. I was then forced to leave a deposit of 860 euros and pay up front for a full tank of fuel unless i took out the optional extra insurance to cover the tires, under body and windscreen. The car was absolutely disgusting, It had dark brown /red stains all over every seat as if somebody had been murdered in there, and if you run your finger over the interior panels, it was black with dirt. It was not even road legal (one windscreen wiper didn't work as it rained on the motorway, had to slow down to 30 KM/H to see properly. Car was also covered in dents and scratches, the rear bumper was hanging off on one side.
The car stalled on a hill at my destination (Salobreña), and would not start again, forcing me to push the car using several locals into a space where i would one hour later return to find a parking ticket on the windscreen.
They agreed to send a man out the next morning (i chose the following morning as i was busy in the evening). We arranged a meeting time and place, but nobody arrived, i was waiting outside in the rain calling head office, each time i got connected a woman answered who kept putting me on hold for an english speaking rep, each time after around 3 minutes i had to hang up as it was costing me a fortune on my mobile.
When i eventually spoke to an english speaker, they had a local man in a 4x4 come out and he started the car first time with an aux battery & some jump leads. I then drove the car for over an hour continuously only to find that the car wouldn't start again when i switched off the engine and tried to restart it.
Called head office back to be given 2 options:
• They send the man back to start the car again, and i drive it back to Malaga airport, which takes minimum 1h 10 minutes each way, where they will give me a replacement car. As i was only on 'holiday' for the weekend, all this wasted time was unacceptable
• Find a place in the town to sell me a new battery, keep the receipt, and they will reimburse me.
I had to have a spanish speaking friend complain to them on the phone, and we decided to have the car towed back to Malaga with almost a full tank of fuel remaining. I then had to take a taxi with my family, including my Aunt, who had to on that same day go to hospital for emergency treatment for a severe chest infection which gave her a serious Asthma attack from Salobreña to Malaga airport to catch our flights, which cost us 130 Euros.
I'm yet to have my deposit refunded, despite there being no problems. I am expecting to receive it, (they did say i would), but i need it as soon as possible as i'm not being charge overdraft fees by my bank.
Would give minus 5 stars if i could

Update: Still not had my €860 Euro (£720.28) deposit returned and it’s now the 10th day. Had a reply from them 4 days ago saying
“Your deposit has already been refunded and it usually takes a few days, depending on the bank, to arrive to your account” -

Update: So a week after my last post, there was finally deposit money returned to my account, but with £76.60 missing!! £720.28 was originally taken as deposit, and £643.68 returned. I wrote to complain and ask why the exact same amount was not returned, as if anything, i should be getting more money back for returning the car early with almost a full tank of fuel remaining, and having to pay €120 for a cab to the airport with my family since the car had to be towed back to them. I’ve still had no response from them.
Argus car hire have been most sympathetic helpful in getting this resolved and have just written to apologise once more and tell me that Marbesol are going to refund the remaining amount. I’ve just checked my bank statement and Marbesol have returned £48.40 (rather than £76.60), unbelievable!
So it continues.. I do feel a bit better that they owe me £28 now rather than £76 but i’m not letting them off, and i want money for this taxi and the full amount i paid for the car hire too.Outrageous company
Total rip off company that hook you in with cheap prices then catch you out with the usual small print hidden charges. You end up paying more in the end, and you start your holiday feeling dejected and angry.
You pay over inflated prices for a full tank, you have no option. They ask you to return the car completely empty. They get free petrol back from every single customer. They got 1/3 of a tank paid for by muggins.
They blackmail you into either paying extra insurance or paying 800 Euros deposit. The deposit costs you dearly. You pay the incoming and outgoing bank charges. It cost me about 50 Euros in extra charges.
The first car I got looked tatty with only one head light working. The second was only slightly better.
By-the-way, I give them a minus one star rating.

Marbesol is the WORST car hire company. It was a battle to get on the mini bus at the airport. People had put on their luggage only to be told the bus was full. I ended up on one mini bus while my luggage was on another. The seat belt wouldn’t tie.There was a long queue at the office and most of us were standing outside the door. It took 45 minutes to reach the desk where I was offered a complicated set of options for additional insurance and fuel. The car I was allocated had no hub caps and more scratches and dents than I could count. I was told they take the hub caps off because people lose them! I refused the car, which I had earlier seen another customer reject. Having spent 45 minutes in the queue and a further 15 minutes at the desk, I was told I’d have to wait if I didn’t accept the car. I waited and was finally offered another car which hadn’t been properly cleaned. The glass was smudged, there was a piece of chocolate stuck to the passenger seat, the boot was dirty and the car had numerous scratches. I accepted it as it was then 2 hours after my arrival. A service warning appeared – the engine oil needed to be changed. By the time I started out on my long drive I was annoyed and frustrated and felt I had been manipulated into paying extra money. I had booked through Argus and didn’t expect to be dealing with a rip-off outfit operating from a shabby ‘office’ in what looks like a second-rate second-hand car lot. PLEASE ARGUS STOP DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY! YOUR CLIENTS DESERVE BETTER!
Go with a reputable company instead, not these cowboys.

I hired a car for a weekend. The car was fine although it had a few scratches which were indicated on the paperwork when I collected the car, however, beware when I dropped the vehicle back it was checked over by the person that worked there but low and behold when I got home I was deducted a further £35. Apparently there was a dent on the front bumper which I know wasn’t true. Also, if there had of been a bump why was I told everything was ok and allowed to go. This is a very under hand way of operating and the response I have received from them is basically saying that there was a dent and I am only being charged for the the time that the vehicle is of the road but the insurance will cover the damage!! The seems to be a regular occurrance for the car hire rental company so please beware!

J’ai loué des voitures plusieurs fois à l’aéroport de Malaga. Séduit par les prix j’ai réservé chez MARBESOL mais je regrette beaucoup. C’est la première et la dernière fois. Je déconseille cette compagnie . Nous étions seulement 4 clients et nous avons attendu 1 heure. le téléphone sonnait et l’employée répondait toujours ! L’intérieur d ela voiture sentait mauvais et était poussièreuse. La caution de 800 € a été débité le jour même et remboursé 4 jours après la restituation du véhicule. Pendant cette période vous pouvez vous retrouver en difficulté à cause de l’encours de vos achats. Bref à fuir.
I recently rented a car from Marbesol and my experience was really bad. We received an old car Opel Corsa with already 90.000 km. Furthermore the service is really bad. The car had serveral defects, such as bad battery and large deviation to the right. The personell is unfriendly. In low season you still have to wait for over a hour to get your car. The process for one rental car takes almost 20 minutes and needs no less then TEN signatures. The is really ridiculous and can go a lot faster. This is the second time I had a rental car from Marbesol and also the first time the car had defects, the doors couldn’t close.
They wont come to your hotel to switch cars. You have to drive back to the airport again. Precious holiday time gone.
This is my last time a rent a car from Marbesol.

Hi I would like to complain about the service & car I received while I was visiting Marbella before Christmas 2011. We hired a Opel corsa diesel and collected it from your office at Malaga airport with no problems. As I was driving down the motorway I heard a very unusual noise from the front of the car it sounded as if the wheel was going to fall off. It was 11pm and I was very nervous driving to my destination but could not turn around and continued to my apartment slowly. When I arrived I emailed Marbesol and expected a reply next morning but got no reply. I then phoned the office at the airport and was told to return the car but told the girl I was too nervous to drive it back up the motorway and persuaded her to get it collected it took over 2 hours waiting for the pick up truck to eventually arrive which I expected to have a replacement car but the driver said he new nothing. I again phoned the office to tell them I was left stranded with no car & was told to find my way to the office at the airport. I finally persuaded the girl that it was her responsibility to supply transport, so she supplied a taxi which took over another 2.5 hours to arrive. When I got to the office I had to wait another hour to get a replacement car. I eventually got to leave the Malaga airport office after 4pm, I was staying in Marbella only for 3 days and had lost a full day trying to get the car replaced which was a third of my holiday. I never received even an apology from the staff at Marbesol only had to argue to even get the car replaced. I emailed the company when I got home to complain but never received a reply. Hopefully someone from the company will have the decency to reply to this post. I am travelling to Spain again next month but will not be using marbesol

they will charge your credit card when you get home with random charges and your car will be a banger mine was actually dangerous with a tyre that was so far worn it had metal sticking out dont go with them!!!! cant award them a 0 so just gave 1 star

I would give 0 stars I could.
I found this company using a comparison service and went for them as they were the cheapest and decided to book them in July 2011.
The disappointment was instant when I realised that these cowboys are a short drive away from the Airport. not within the grounds as they claim.
After numerous calls to the office, I realised I had to wait for a minibus to pick us up and take us to the car pickup. When I arrived, they weren’t aware that I needed a car seat for my 7 month old son, and then left me to fit it myself. Luckily, I have the same brand of car seat at home and therefore wasn’t a problem.
The problems continued when I realised the car was significantly worse than the one I had ordered. The car was so crap they don’t even have them in the UK, and was utterly unable to cope with the landscape in Granada, meaning I spent most of the time in 3rd or 4th gear.
A few months later in September, I was going through my credit card statements which I rarely use, only to discover I had been charged £30 by Marbesol. I rang up the UK customer service number only to be put through to a rude lady with questionable English.
She told me that the charge was for a fine, and kept reminding me that I had signed up for this in the Ts and Cs. I tried several times to explain that my issue was not the fine, but for not being informed by Marbesol. She told me that they contact clients 3 or 4 months after to inform them of the fine, and when I queried why it took so long, she got angry and told me it wasn’t her fault Spanish people work so slowly, and perhaps that I should contact the Spanish police.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. PLAY IT SAFE AND USE A TRUSTED, RELIABLE CAR HIRE COMPANY.

Not a bad place to rent a car. the rental was booked through a 3rd party website and honoured without problem at pick up. the only major issue was that time you felt that the staff could not wait to deal with and get you out the door so that they could move on to someone else.
