Golden Lion Country Inn and Hotel

The Golden Lion has really gone down hill in recent months however their prices have gone dramatically uphill & this place is no longer the good value for money it once was. There isn’t really much on the menu below £11 for a main course meal & that doesn’t even include vegetables! In addition, the service & quality of food really is inconsistent & I have experienced a bad lunch & a bad dinner there now & I am afraid to say I will not be returning which is sad as I was once a regular Patron of the restaurant & the hotel. As with all privately owned places, often complaints & feedback aren’t taken seriously enough which is wrong although it comes back to bite them in the end because Patron’s will simply stop going there & take their business elsewhere which is exactly what I have done. The restaurant & the hotel need a lick of paint & general improvement as it is looking tired & dated.

We have eaten here as a couple, as a family, and we had our son's 21st in the function room! The food for his party was outstanding, and so much of it! We have had many meals here, and they have always been excellent, and the staff are always very friendly! It is a lovely quaint pub, and we have also stayed in the hotel. Everything about the Golden Lion is nice, even the prices, which are very reasonable! Well worth a visit!

I visited the golden lion a few weeks ago for thier sunday carvery.

I must say i was really shocked on how very much i enjoyed it, i’m normally a regualr at another carvery in the area, but they could not get myself and family in on this particular weekend, so we visited the golden lion instead, and we were not disapointed.

really reasonable, at about 9.00 i think for the carvery i considered this to be great value.

my hubby was very impressed and being a chef, he is normally very fussy….. there roast poatoes were great, really yummy, crispy round the edges and fluffy inside.

You could tell they used quality ingriedients.

We will definatly visit again, and we do want too try them out mid week also as i have heard from friends that thier meals in the week are just as good.
