If you want culture, then this should be your first stop. Set on on the Albert Docks it allows you to combine shopping and food with art and culture.

I studies Art History in my last year at Liverpool Uni and hence spent most Thursdays at the Tate. The Tate collection itself is free but you do have to pay for the exhibitions. That said the Tate's collection itself is always changing.
The Tate is a proper little gem in what can sometimes be a cold and miserable Albert Dock, if you're fancying a day at the Dock be sure to go in the summer, as with it being on the water (surprise surprise) it can get super cold. But don't let this put you off The Tate, just make sure to race straight there. Once there be sure to stop by the café first to tuck into some hearty soup, from what I can remember it didn't half warm me up and was pretty tasty too!

My first day in Liverpool I spent walking down through out the Albert dock area and found myself making my way to see a Sculpture exhibition that happened to be showing at the Tate at that time.
thought invoking and definitely one of the more cultural things to see and do in Liverpool

Modern art gallery in Liverpool's lovely Albert Dock area, part of the Tate family of galleries. Lots of interesting pieces, and best of all it's free (although donations are actively encouraged). There's a good gift shop too selling quirky bits and bobs.
Definitely worth a visit!
