I’d have scored a minus star rating if there was the option…
I’m a local resident of 4 years and having heard poor reviews of the establishment I felt that it was time to give it a chance and find out for myself.
Unfortunately it was probably the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.
Frozen and microwaved food. Steaks come as you get them, you don’t get a choice. No bottles of wine, it’s only draft. Tartlet is a scotch pie in disguise. The chilled desserts were still frozen in the middle.
Our table was positioned carefully under the drips in the conservatory.
The service verged on rude. We had to approach the bar a few times to interrupt the staff who were clearly more intent on gossip than their paying customers.
I tried to write to the establishment through their website to inform them of the customer experience but even their email doesn’t work. They don’t want to know and don’t care from what I can see.
It’s such a shame when set in such a perfect location and surrounded by some other lovely places. Such a wasted opportunity for the owners.
I took my parents and boyfriend here for a three course meal and we thought it was excellent. Above average for the price all in all (~£4.50 starters, ~£10 mains, ~£4.50 puds) – we’ve paid a lot more for a lot less in Edinburgh. Portions were generous, food was hot & very tasty (especially the Tandoori Sea Bass), and perfect location for a short stroll before heading back to Edinburgh. We would all (and we all had a different dish each course) definitely go back & will be recommending it to our friends. As below, I never write reviews but felt I should as the others definitely don’t reflect the evening we had.
cant believe the other comments on here…….We had a groupon voucher for a 2 course meal for 2 with wine. We booked our table for an early saturday evening meal. The service was excellent, as was the food. and the table was clean. We will definitely go back and I just felt I had to comment as the 4 others on this were not what we experienced
Dreadful service and dreadful food – we left without eating anything…
We visited on a Wednesday evening around 7.30pm and the restaurant and bar were both fairly quiet. We ordered drinks and snacks (nothing complicated; deli sandwiches, bruschetta, mussels, chips) which took 50 minutes to arrive. When they finally did arrive the “deli sandwich” had almost no filling, the chips were cold, the mussels overcooked and the bruschetta soggy.
We left and will not return.
we ordered starters of crab fish cakes with a pineapple salsa, starter came with no salsa and fish cakes only tasted of chilli. My steak pie had no gravy, olny beef soup, served in a bowl with microwave pastry. What a waste of a beautiful location and management who have no consideration for customers.
Half empty when we arrived at six o'clockish on a Sunday however we were advised that our ridiculously long wait for service was due to being busy??? Placed at a sticky table amongst others with dirty dishes on. Second staff member took our drinks order and third one arrived with the wrong order. Far too long a wait for service and between courses. Deep fried food tasted of old cooking oil and took hours to digest that's once it finally arrived. Advised that longest wait would be for steak, 20 minutes however waited 41 minutes for steak pie when people who ordered after us were served theirs first. Avoid. Better servce at Maccy D's.
Given that this restaurant has a prime location overlooking the forth and both the rail and road bridge we were very dissppointed by our visit. We visited at the latter end of the summer when it was busy but not mobbed. We went in to find a table for a drink with a view to eat. All the empty tables were dirty and no one made an effort to clear one for us. we stood about for a few minutes and as no one made any attempt to help we left and went elsewhere. This could be a fantastic place but needs a bit of a push.
