Review of Anne Frank Huis from 24 January 2012

Was disappointed to see a massive glass cafe in the middle of old ann’s house and was disappointed in what the house had to offer inside.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 30 April 2011 (updated on 2 May 2011)

This house is extraordinary & a must-see.
It has changed over the years: when I first
visited in 1964, it was very much left as it must
have been in the time of the Frank family.
Now curated, it houses a big exhibition & feels
more like a public museum, than a private house
with secrets. What is an improvement, is the sight
of the holocaust sculpture across the road
which you can see from the front windows

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 26 February 2011

Really wonderful experience and a must see when visiting the city. It's full of information you might have never heard and there's something for everyone. One of the most moving parts for me was this very large book which is filled completely with all the names of people who died from The Netherlands alone during the Holocaust. Although we know the numbers it's quite startling to see these tiny printed names in such a large book, and knowing there are hundreds more pages of them.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 15 February 2011

Another must-see if you are in Amsterdam (along with the Van Gogh museum and the Red Light District) although I would strongly recommend you do this early in the morning, 45 minutes before closing or on a weekday - the queue was unbelievable the first two times we tried to go.

Our third attempt (a Monday afternoon) was finally a success and there was barely a queue at all. It's a sombering but inspring experience and it's less like a museum than you might imagine. The exhibition is laid out with a different section of Anne's story on each floor all the way up to the 'Secret Annexe' where they actually hid.

Obviously this type of thing is subjective so there's not much else I can say by way of a 'review' (it's somebody's life story after all!) but it really is a great opportunity experience one of the last scraps of tangible WWII history

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 26 April 2010

Anne Frank’s house is something I would recommend to all visitors to Amsterdam. It is not far from the station, easy walking distance. My recommendation would be to buy tickets online before arriving as otherwise you are likely to stand in queue even if you arrive very early. I was expecting something amazing and i was not dissapointed. Worth a visit , great experience

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 31 January 2010

After three trips to Amsterdam, I finally made it to the Anne Frank Haus. I realize that it's touristy, but for every young girl who has read the book, it's a must see.

First, I suggest that you get there early - especially on a Saturday. We got there around 1045 after a transportation fail (the canal to the haus was frozen), and we had a short wait. By the time we exited, the queue was around the corner. Expect 1.5hrs to complete it with all things read and considered.

Second thing, bring a tissue. There are moments when it just hits you how desperate and hard it must have been for the individuals living in the annex. Then, they hit you with videos that just break your heart.

Finally, say a prayer or count your blessings. You go in thinking you will be prepared, but you're not. It's a strange feeling when you walk out of the doors and back into the air and feel the sun on your face and to go back to your normal life. We get to just go on and exist... and the whole thing just makes you want to kick something or hug someone.

Definitely worth the visit.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 4 June 2009

There isn’t really much to say about the place that hasn’t already been said.

A must see, everyone knows her story, wonderful, big queues… blah blah blah. It’s all true.

What a lot of the review fail to point out is that it’s a very unique and quite unnerving museum to go to. The experience you’ll have there is bizarre, as another review pointed out that further you go into the museum the quiter things get. It’s a very absorbing and potentially emotional trip through the house and it’s difficult to convey how worthwhile going is.

We went in the summer, and the heat in the house added to the claustrophibic nature of the place, perhaps making it more hard hitting.

If you’re in Amsterdam for any perior of time then go.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 25 May 2009

A visit to Anne Frank’s house is something I would recommend to all visitors to Amsterdam. It is easy walking distance from the station or where buses drop off and therefore can be part of a day trip agenda. I would allocate about 2 hours. My recommendation would be to buy tickets online before arriving as otherwise you are likely to stand in queue even if you arrive very early.

Once inside you will make your way up to the famous attic - reading excerpt from Anne’s diary and a variety of informative posters, watch video footage and look at preserved objects from the house.

All in all an poignant, humbling experience and would be interesting for children around years old up over.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 30 January 2009

We were very lucky and didn’t have to to queue to get in. Travelling through the building is like going back in time and the whole experience is a very profound one. Being able to see the pictures of celebrities that Anne had stuck on the wall, as any teenager would do, really hit me. As you go through the rooms, at first, people are talking to each other, then they become quiet, then, towards the end you hear sobbing. After the attic rooms the rest of the museum tries to put it in context for you. I was able to get some brochures that helped with my daughters school project. Well worth the visit. Makes you think.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 19 January 2009

If your in Amsterdam, this has to be a must for any sightseeing visitor. We went early morning at opening time and there was still a queue, with about a 20 minute wait - not too bad and definitly worth it. From the outside it is a very modern glass like building, nothing like the surrounding area which is traditional houses on a side canal. You get to see a lot of films and history in the times of Anne Frank. Then you make your way upto the Annex, and I have to say it felt quite eerie and the atmoshphere in that room was intense, I dont know if it was because there was only 4 of us in that small room, but I got quite emotional. At the end of the 'tour’ you have the opportunity to buy souviners, the paperback book of anna franks diary has too be a must.

A very informative place and well worth a visit if you’re in Amsterdam but its worth buying the tickets online before you go so no queueing (Theres another door you can go through if you’ve already got tickets).

It’s something we definatley wanted to see while we was there but to be honest, it wasnt what I was expecting. It was very busy and in very small rooms it got really warm in there and I couldnt wait to get out.

Theres lots of videos to watch as you’re walking round and alot of bits of paperwork to read but it’s not somewhere I’ll be rushing back to.

I don’t think I can add much to the description… But I do think that everyone in the world should have to visit this place once in their lifetime… It is a life affirming, eye opening and somewhat sobering experience.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 17 November 2008 (updated on 26 November 2008)

This museum is really cool because practically everyone knows the story of Anne Frank and to actually say you have been in the house is rather amazing.

The museum is set out with original items - of course, one being the famous diary - but obvioulsy you can’t touch.

You see a lot of school kids here during the day because it is very educational.

Not expensive and well worth a look. You can walk here (not too far from the red light area) or there are canal cruises that will stop specifically for this museum. Of course, in the summer, it’s more fun to take a pedalo to this end of town.

A museum definately worth visiting.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 21 November 2008

After reading the diary of Anne Frank at school it was really interesting to visit here. There is loads of information inside if you are interested in the war and in particular in Anne Franks story. Must have been awful for them.

Must warn that the house is very small and gets very busy.
Would not recommend going here on a busy day if you get claustraphobic. Visit on a weekday and you will be able to take your time looking around.

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 20 November 2008

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Amsterdam. As others have said the queues are long but in time sense it doesn’t take that long to get in and is worth the wait. I have been here twice now.

You can see the story of Anne Frank and her family who lived in the back of the house on the Prinsengracht, the very narrow staircase they had to use and the small rooms that housed a lot of people during World War II

Review of Anne Frank Huis from 19 November 2008

Located in the quiet back canals of amsterdam, a bit tricky to find, the anne frank house looks like any other. Fascinating to go up the stairs and into her actual accommodation. Very cramped, they must have driven each other mad. Shelley Winters Oscar for the diary of anne frank is here. Well worth a look between visits to other amsterdam tourist attractions.
